Ipod classic - rockbox - its happening.

I never tried copying music to it before. No I have not tried different Rockbox builds. How would I try this like how to install a different build? I don't have another computer to try this on and have no one that I could try this on their computer.

The instructions for updating Rockbox are in the first post. And in the menu of Emcore it's Tools -> fallback image. That build is a little slow, but a proper USB connection seems to work most of the time on it.

+1 this has become the norm. Don't forget to reboot after your done (menu+select).

Hey all.
I'm looking for some input on what everybody feels is the best performing version from this year. I'm currently running the latest build, and it lags like a real laggy thing. Hit pause, and it takes 1-2 seconds before anything happens. I'm not sure if it's just my battery starting to crap out, or the build, but I find my run times much lower than before. Finally, the lock button has no affect on themes (eg. lock icon, info page on lock). It'll lock the wheel, but that's it.
So far the only good thing I'll say about the builds from the last 2 months or so is they don't freeze my ipod when I disconnect the usb. I'm planning to rollback, but I'd like some opinions on what the best build would be (I honestly can't remember which build worked best for me)

Cheers

In the Encore menu? Really? I see shut down, Rockbox, and console, but no tools.

Tools should be to the right of the emCORE console. Which version are you on?

Since September last year some patch messed up the holdswitch. I've been using a build right before it, it still has great battery life and never crashed even once in all the time I've been using it. USB is also working fine for me.

I've uploaded the build here (note: it's just an older daily build, nothing custom about it, but it works perfect together with emcore r859): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rkn56p6gbliwdih/AAC0nddsaar60hb7dSTOlNLoa?dl=0

Thanks. I'll give it a go. A few odd choices have been made in the latest builds (no more saving database to ram)

Is there a respoitory of old builds, or just whatever shows on the daily build page?

Thanks for posting that, but I got an error after unzipping it and rebooting.  It was a Checksum error, and a line that said something like "Bad ROLO"... can't recall it exactly.  I was still able to get into Rockbox, the version is the same as I had before I unzipped the 2014.10.01 version.  My version reads: e3cc0ca-141022

FWIW, I was able to connect it to my laptop with no problems, and the hold switch seemed to work correctly, though I'm not sure what the hold switch bug is, so I may not have tested for it.

EDIT
The error was:
ROLO error:
Bad checksum

To be fair, it also happened when I unzipped the latest nightly build, so I guess it's a problem on my device.  I forced a reboot, and the version had changed.  So yours should be fine.  Sorry for the false alarm!  And thanks again.  If the latest nightly misbehaves, I'll try yours.

Holdswitch bug is that rockbox doesn't detect the state of the holdswitch.  But the holdswitch still works, in terms of stopping controls from doing anything (presumably it kicks in at a lower-level than rockbox itself?).  But if the theme includes a hold-switch icon you'll see it doesn't ever change to show that the hold-switch is on.

Ah, thanks.  I'll have a look with that nightly from a couple days ago.  Not sure my hacked up theme contains a hold switch icon.

Hi

I installed emCORE & Rockbox on my Ipod classic 6th Gen and want to go back to the original firmware.

I followed the following page tried to enter into DFU mode.
http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Uninstallation

Menu and select buttons are functional separately, but when I Press and hold the menu and select buttons together, seems that only select button work, and the ipod keep rebooting but not into DFU mode.

Could anyone help?

Regards

You have Itunes installed and your doing this with a usb 2.0 port? It has to have a cable in it and itunes open.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_bIDtBohnE&feature=youtu.be it does not stay black like in that video?

NO. It keeps rebooting :frowning2:

I tried many time, and finally found that, I need to release the button after the display turned black, then the Itunes recognized the ipod and restored.

Maybe because it's a resembled ipod, not a genius one.
