onkyo tx-sr805 as my dac

Thread Starter

Looks like im leaning toward getting the k702s. I'll probably build one of the diy amps (that's still another massive decision to make, so many options... :) )

I currently run hdmi from my machine to my receiver, it's a tx-sr805.

I'm wondering if l'll get good results by feeding the preouts on the onkyo to the headphone amp. The dacs in the onkyo are burr-browns (although i don't know which exactly...)

Your thoughts?

Thanks.

p.s.

if it's not up to par with some of the dacs around here (and im pretty sure it isn't) would you at least deem it acceptable?

Why not try the headphone output on the receiver before investing in an amp?  If it sounds good, then just go with it.  If you don't like it, then worry about an amp.  I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-94THX receiver and I run the optical output of my motherboard to it.  For reasons that I can't quite explain, my DT770 Pro-80 sound better out of the receiver's headphone output than out of any other amp I've tried them with.
