KG Jag,
I've also heard the sr325i are quite shrill sounding in comparison to the already bright sr225i. Definitely not what i want

The MS2 solves that problem for most who have it.  Again--the sound stage, although best in its line, is nothing more than "OK".

That said, I love the 325is through a tube amp, which softens its highs just a bit.

KG Jag,
Haha, I'm not looking to put down $100 for a cheap tube amp and $300 for a headphone; but thanks

Can anyone here give me a good comparison of the following headphones I'm considering for university use? I started a thread asking for advice but haven't had any luck. I'm looking for comfort (hours of use), with decent sound isolation for when studying. I also watch movies and game a bit. I've got 200 dollars to spend, preferably 180 though, with an upper limit of 500.

I don't really know anything about sound quality. I listen to a wide variety of music, if anything, I'd say it focuses more on the lows and mids, occasionally touching the highs. So essentially, I'm looking for a pair of headphones with a solid bass, warm and not recessed mids, and nice highs that aren't too scratchy, making the cans sound clear and not muted. Genres: pop, dance, r&b, rock, alternative, hip-hop, instrumentals/acoustic, jazz, blues, folk.

These are the ones I've browsed and that seem to fit, I'm not sure if they do however, if there are any better ones, feel free to suggest other ones.

Ultrasone HFI 580 or Ultrasone HFI 780 (What's the difference between the two? Which would be better suited for me?)
Denon AD-H1100
Fischer FA-003
Shure SRH840

Okay, so I posted earlier in this thread about something different, but have come across a new issue.

The tips of my earbuds keep coming off in my ear.

So long story short, I would like some cheap, portable headphones for use with my ipod,
isolation and comfort being the key factors. I DO have a Fiio E6, so having to give a little power
boost is no issue, but the cheaper they are the better, since I do plan on working on the rest
of my setup shortly.

Looking at panasonic and sony mostly, as those are brands I can find a lot in nearby shops.

What's "cheap" to you?

LOL--I thought the lack of sound stage would have nixed all the greater Grado SR family.

I guess Grado isn't for me then. I'm looking into the AKG q701 and liking what I'm hearing.

 Thanks for the help though

Around $60 would be ideal, which is why after looking through this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shootout-102-portable-headphones-reviewed-panasonic-rp-htf600-added-04-29-12 , I may go with the HD428...though tempted to order one of the Superlux models or the Panasonic RP-HTF600-S, but based on the comparisons, the senn's would probably be more comfortable and better isolating out of the box...

Just fishing around for thoughts really. I'd be playing mostly FLAC from my phone, with the E6 if necessary.

The basshead cans on your list are not suited for all around use.  The two best that are left are the 780 and 840. Closed cans (like all of these) tend to have an inferior sound stage to open (leaking) cans.

The 780 will give you more bass and slam.  It is also bright.  It's decent in the comfort and isolation areas.

The 840 will give you a more neutral-ish sound with a mid-bass hump and highs that are a bit recessed.  I would rate it better than the 780 with regard to comfort and isolation.

Also worth consideration is the KRK KNS 8400.  It's more balanced than the other two.  While accurate & detailed, some find it to be a bit boring.

The Sony MDR 7510 isolates very well and is comfortable.  It does everything well, while not shining in any specific area.

Since you mentioned the KRK KNS 8400, what do you mean by 'boring' and 'mid-bass hump'? Sorry if it seems like stupid questions, I'm not familiar really with these terms.

As well, I've been hearing mixed reviews about the HFI 580, some say that its mids are alright, just a bit scratchy at the highs. Personally, what do you think?

What do you think about these and the Ultrasone PRO 550?

I'm new to the headphone game but I've got a pretty good idea of what I want in a set of cans. What I'm looking for:

-Good looking (I'm in high school and I don't want to be embarrassed wearing them.)
-Good sound (I would prefer a little bit of bass)
-Comfort (I want to be able to listen to them on long car rides)
-Noise isolation (I don't want to be completely blocked of outside noise, but most of it)
-Little to no leakage (It must be my OCD, but I can't stand when people can hear my music)
-Detachable cable -Case (hard shell if possible).
-Affordable (anything over $150 is a stretch.)
-Durability

I've had my eyes on 3 headphones lately: the Sol Republic Tracks HD, Sennheiser HD 439's, and the Vmoda Crossfade LP2's. Each one has something or other holding me back from getting them. I've heard that the Sol Republic's have a comfort issue, the Sennheiser's don't come with a case, and the Vmoda's are a little out of my price range even though they are all I want in a headphone. Of the three, which should I get? Or, can you recommend new ones?

It's NP to ask when you don't know.

I did not say that I find the KRK to be boring, but those that do essentially claim that it is dry and accurate but with no zing.

A hump is an emphasis of certain frequencies in the audible sound spectrum.  In this case it is the mid bass frequencies that are emphasized beyond how they were recorded.

I don't know anything about the Beyers you linked--only about the DT 770, 880 & 990.

As I have little personal interest in basshead cans, I can't tell you much about the Ultrasone Pro/HiFi 5x0 series.

Asking for a hard case is kind of crazy for that price.  You might want to try the Koss TBSE1.  It comes with a semi-hard case, has a detachable cable, etc, etc.
