My girlfriend is looking for headphones that are purely for style and durability.

She went through some skullcandy lowriders but they have broken really quickly.

She really likes the look and prefers ones that don't 'stretch' out when you put them on (and maintain a more circular shape)

Does anyone have any recommendations? Budget is around ~50. I'm located in Canada so a lot of amazon and other sites don't ship here (or do for some ridiculous s&h rate)

I've recommended the ATH-SJ55/SJ33/SJ11 but she's worried they will look 'wide' when worn.

Thanks

Quoting again, haven't had any luck

Hey guys. I'm pretty new to the audiophile scene; my first and currently only pair of real headphones are the Grado 225is, and I love them to death, but I've been bit by the head-fi bug, and want to try some new things. I listen to rock music, which the Grados performed well at, although the bass was quite lacking for me, and the treble was too grating, so on my next headphone I'd like those to be reversed. The most important thing for me are the mids: the vocals have to be rich and up front. Keeping this in mind, I did some research and I've got three choices in my price range:
Audio Technica ADH-M50s
Denon D2000s
Ultrasone Hfi 580s
I will be listening to them through Voodoo Sound on my phone (a small dac/amp).
I don't want a "neutral" sound- I want my music to be dynamic, fun, involving, and I want to really feel it.
Since I have no way of demoing the headphones, I'm relying on you guys :)
Lastly, I'd like to say a few words that I found on a review for the Ultrasone Hfi 2400s:
"There are people who listen to their equipment through music, and those that listen to music through their equipment."
I definitely belong to the latter group, so please keep that in mind. Thanks!

EDIT: Also, if I've missed any, please feel free to suggest other headphones as well :)

Denons are great, but they have slightly recessed mids. The Hfi580 and ATH-M50 are going to be even more "V" shaped in their sound signature. You may like a Sennheiser headphone (558, 598, 600, 650) if you properly amp it. They won't have powerful bass (except maybe for the 650), but it is more neutral.

Yeah, I agree.  For mids, open back Sennheisers are excellent.

All the cans you have listed have recessed mids--especially relative to their respective bass.  In the cases of the first two--also relative to their treble.

You sound like V-Moda M80 kind of guy.

So I am thinking of buying a good <$50 headphone for the first time, an upgrade from my cheap ipod earbuds. Which from among these would you recommend? I need it for:

1. All around use. Music (classical and rock) and movies.
2. Durable.
3. Preferably sound isolating.

Looking at Panasonic HTF600 and JVC HARX700 and Superlux HD 681 and Audio-Technica ATH-M30 and possibly skullcandy. Am super confused with reviews because they are so mixed! What do you think best fits my needs?

The Superlux HD668B or Samson RH600--with sound being the priority.

do the superlux and samson have good warranty and durability?

i cannot afford to waste money at all.

That depends on how you plan to use them.  I would not get either if you plan to throw them into a backpack every day.

You'll have to check their respective web sites for details on their respective warranties.

Warranties, for the price you pay for the headphones it's better to toss and buy new.

Sorry to bump this thread again so soon, but I now need a definitive answer ASAP. I listen only to rock music, I like my highs not too bright, my lows nice and thumpy, but I'm not a basshead by any means, and the most important thing for me are the mids. I want the vocals to be rich, warm, and up front. Here are my two choices:
Audio Technica M50s
V-moda M80s
Thanks!

V-moda M80. ATH-M50s have recessed mids so you won't be happy. The highs on the M80 are also pretty tame

Hey guys I need some help...

I recently got my Beyer DT 990/250 (absolutely love them) and I feel like my little e11 is being pushed to the absolute max and I need a better "Portable" amp that can push my Beyer and other future higher impedance cans. If you guys have any suggestions that would be great!! Oh and please try to keep it under $200 if possible but I'll listen to what ever since I'm probably going to be selling my Pro 900's so I'll have the extra cash if need be.. And if you can give some ideas as to where I can but the AMP's from that would also be awesome :)

Thanks in advance
