:) I'd be one of the few people who DOESN'T use Beats or Skullcandy for big headphones!

Audio-Technica ATHM40FS:

Could you guys describe the sound sig of these? I've learned a lot reading here for weeks.  These were always on my buy list, especially @ $60/shipped but I would like other choices for a neutral to warmish sounding pair. I hate grainy, brittle highs. Ipod gen 5.5. Classic country, smooth jazz, some disco and funk.  NO Metal, heavy rock!

thx

@Chininho: Well, from experience, the Koss UR-40. They may not be closed-back, but they sound REALLY good, I owned a pair and loved them to pieces, they sounded really sweet and were comfortable as hell. The only downfall: they leak sound like crazy due to being open-back

Based on rep and reviews, the Sony MDR-V6, they have probably the most solid headphone rep, mainly for having the best sound out there without spending a fortune and for being practically unkillable, along with having rave reviews all across the board, and they're closed-back. The 7506 is basically a relabeled V6.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some new headphones. They have to be closed because I do a lot of audio recording so if I have open they will bleed too much. I listening to speech (radio and TV) through my headphones as well as rock/metal music mainly but really a bit of everything as I work at a radio station. I was looking at the Audio Technica M50 (~$150/£100 budget) ... I'm not looking for bass heavy cans. I guess because I will be listening to such a variety of music there isn't one headphone that handles everything but do you think the M50 are decent headphones?

hi, im searching for a full size closed headphone that perform great with classical and rock(pearl jam, nirvana, etc..). I don`t consider myself a basshead. I can spend up to $300.

Out of what will these headphones be played?  Will they be amped?  Will you use them on the go or only at home?  Are you OK with sound leakage that typically comes with open cans?  What is the format of your music?

Looking for suggestions on headphones
Budget: $100 max, if it would really make a difference/bargain deal. I'd like to spend less, though.
Use: 70% Blu-Ray movies, 20% music (Classic rock/Current mainstream hits/House music/Rap & Hip hop from 1990-2005), 10% streaming movies/TV
Powered by: Panasonic SA-XR55 Receiver, optical inputs from both Blu-Ray player & Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro
Listener bias: Paradigm Studio 20 & Studio 10 Monitors

-I'd like more than a one year warranty.
-Comfort, comfort, comfort. I sometimes watch 1-2 movies in one session or listen to music for hours.
-I'm open to open ear, but I've always had closed ear (Sony MDR-V500, MDR-V150). I don't want too much leakage.
-I prefer the single cord design due to tangles. My Sony MDR-V150s became coiled monsters and just broke after 18 months. I'm not sad to see them go.
-Not a gamer.

You'll do better with the more neutral Shure SRH 840, Sony MDR 7510 or KRK KNS 8400.

I can tell you that if you play them at a reasonable volume you should not bother another reasonable person sitting close to you.  That's as far as I would go with any cans.

I have not heard the 900's.  From what I have read, I would expect them to be aimed just a bit more toward the basshead or basshead lite markets.

I don't have any portable amps, so I cannot help you with that.

Thanks, I ordered the 900s

You're asking a great deal for not very much coin.  Check out the excellent Superlux HD668B Dynamic Semi-Open Headphones.

P.S. I don't know your speakers.

Hello

I'm in the market for some new headphones for around $250ish. I've been doing a lot of looking around on the site, but I'm having a hard time making a decision.

I'm looking to replace a pair of Sennheiser PC 350's that I received as a gift a couple years back which have stopped working. While they were great for positional audio in gaming, they definitely fell behind when it came to music. I can assume this was attributed to the fact that they were never driven properly with an amp. They were also a headset created for gaming, not headphones.

System :
Station : I use a desktop, so the headphones will always remain at my desk. Portability isn't an issue.

Source : I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Pro Sound Card

Amp : While I do not currently have an amp, I plan to buy one to accompany these new headphones.

What I'm looking for :
Music : My favorite genres are Progressive / Alternative Rock & Metal (Tool, RATM, Chevelle, Deftones) - Industrial Metal (Oomph, Rammstein) - Certain Electronica (Not Dubstep).

Gaming : I do not do any competitive gaming, but I like to have that positional audio advantage in a FPS.

Design : I'm looking for a pair Full-Sized, Circumaural headphones. I'm really apprehensive towards open headphones. My tower sits on my desk right beside me. I used to have a fairly loud air cooled case, and I tried a pair of open headphones around it. They seemed to almost funnel the noise of the fans into the ear cup. Almost drowning out the sound. I had to crank the volume as a result to levels that were a bit too loud for my taste. Granted I now have a much quieter case. I'm still on the fence about open headphones after this experience.

Comfort : The one thing I truly hated about my PC 350s is their pleather ear pads. They would cause my head sweat, and make me really uncomfortable. This time around, I would really like to get a pair with velour / velvet ear pads.

At first, I really had my eye on a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770's. They seemed like everything I could have wanted, meeting most of my criteria. However, after reading Mad Lust Envy's gaming headphone I was put off a bit. I do appreciate bass, but not to point of it being overwhelming. I also read a few other posts claiming they're not really suited for my taste in music.

I'm hoping some experienced head-fiers can make some recommendations on where to go from here.

Hello, I am new here and just wondering if I can get some help.
My IEM recently broke, they were cheap so I just waited for it to happen. I've always bought not so good ones because I didn't know the difference really. But now I want to buy myself a good full sized headphone. I read the guides and it looks like the Grado sr80i is a good place to start and are great headphones in general. I just want to double check if it is for sure right for me. I will use them to listen to music in the car while they are connected to my mp3. And I will also use them while at home connected to my laptop so I can listen to music and play games. I will use them in public, but not much. So did I pick the right headphones?

Probably not because they leak a great deal.

So i bought the DT990 Premium, I'll connect it to Xonar Phobus, When should i start the Burn-in test and for how long ? I don't want to mess with it cause warranty is going to be issue if something happens, i live in Israel and i'll need to send it to USA or to wherever shop i bought it from ebay.
If you can give me the thumb top rules for new headphones using the max 600ohm connection, from the very first time you connect it until you can use it normally.

Thanks
