Just bumping my noob question, i was using some senn 598's for gaming; i was wondering what in-game settings should i use? "headphones" "5.1" "7.1"

I've heard that using "Cinema Theater" setting works well for Dolby Headphone.
If the game has that setting?

OKAY so I just got my new Fiio E7 and it came with absolutelly no battery power. I want to know how long it's supposed to charge because I read from someone that the manual says 200 mins but they charged for 5 hours and still didn't get a full battery reading

Well it's been a few more hours now. If it hasn't charged by now, I would suspect a faulty unit.

So I was planning to buy an Ultrasone DJ1 Pro, but I noticed the same shop also has an Ultrasone HFI-680 on clearance for the same price (220 canadian). I don't really know anything about that headphone, how do they compare?

I originally chose the DJ1-Pro because I wanted something somewhat portable with good bass that I could use on the train. It'll be used for a lot of stuff, but mostly electro, classic rock and some metal.

From what I've read, the 680 is one of the brighter Ultrasones. The DJ1 is decent, though a bit boomier than other Ultrasones I've heard and only aveage for bass. It could do with some damping inside.

If you're looking for bass, you might consider looking at the HFi580 or Pro750. Which Canadian site are you looking at?

K, posted this yesterday but got no reply, here it goes again. I'm looking into getting my first real pair of headphones and I'm looking to spend around $100-$150 for the phones + any neccessary audio gear. I will be using them primarily for gaming, but also for the occasional dubstep/hip-hop sot bass is a neccessity. As for gaming I will be using them for games like Skyrim and Battlefield 3 (non-competitive), so I want something that will immerse me in the game, staging would be a plus but not completley neccesary since I won't be doing any competitive gaming. After doing some research at several sites including here, it seems like my best choices for phones are the Samson SR850. They have good bass, they're inexpensive and it sounds like they have decent staging. I was originally looking at the AD700, but their lack of bass is a major turn off and although looks aren't that important to me, they're pretty hideous imo. So are these the right phones for me and if not, what would you guys suggest? Also, what would you guys suggest as far as sound cards or amps?

Something like the Audio Technica M50 or Shure 840 would also be pretty decent and offer some bass. If you're sitting at a computer, any half decent budget sound card should be sufficient since you're not trying to drive particularly demanding headphones.

Looking for headphones that will sound good with acoustic rock and indie music, what I call folk rock.  I don't really care if they are closed or open, but do want over the ear headphones.  I have a set of in-ears, Etymotic ER-4P, and enjoy the speed and clarity.  I would like to find something similar, with possibly a touch more warmth but not a lot they're really close to what I am looking for. I would also use them to watch movies. I would prefer to not have to amp them, but if I could get a reasonably priced amp or amp/dac, then it wouldn't be that big of a deal.  I've been looking at the KRK KNS 6400's or the 8400's and the Shure 840's.  I'm not sure if a monitor headphone is what I'm looking for, so I'm looking for suggestions if these would be good or if I should look at others.  $150-200 budget, but less is better. Thanks!

I would say shoot for the KRK6400.

Here are some of the recommendations I have hauled in ... plus an interesting twist.

Today at work, a guy hears me talking about headphones and he says, 'I actually have a pair of headphones I am looking to get rid of because I don't need them anymore'.  Then he goes on to tell me they are Bose something or others and sends me this link http://reviews.cnet.com/4505-7877_7-21174534.html .  He also said that he would sell me these for only 130$.  I told him to bring them in tomorrow and I would give a listen but nobody who replied to my cries for help suggested a Bose product.  Interesting huh?

Anyway ... here is what people have weighed in with:

 - SONY MDR-ZX700
 - DENON AH-D2000
 - BEYERDYNAMIC DT 1350
 - SENNHEISER PX-200II

I have to admit, the names that I knew of before this hunt are not the names I am being presented with and that is a bit of a shock.  Frankly, it seems like whatever I would buy at BestBuy would be junk.  That seems so strange and I can't figure out why a store like that wouldn't carry these products that get great reviews and such.  Its probably the whole big box attitude or something.

Thank you to all who replied. I'm doing my homework on these models trying to make a judgement call on what will do the job.  I really appreciate the feedback.

Those choices are all over the place in terms of functionality and price. What sort of criteria do you have?
on ear vs over ear
portable or not
music preferences
amp or not
isolation or not

Looking for headphones to upgrade out of my Panasonic RP-DJS400s, I liked them, but the head band seemed to be made of stale chips. Brittle as screw. Anyway, after spending 2.5 months with them and getting them reordered under warranty TWICE (i broke the headband twice), my patience has been exceeded and I simply need an upgrade into some durable headphone.

What do I want?
- 0-100ish (I'm okay with going a lil over, but would prefer under) dollars.
- Something that'll raise me correctly as an audiophile (I dont wanna revert back to the "Lol skullcandies and bose" stage.*shiver*" Anyway, I'm really starting to get a finer ear for sound quality now as a trip to the Sony Style store really left me with a lot of opinions on each headphones. Its a nice feelings knowing that you know which is better and which is overpriced.
- Treble, Mid, and Bass are all important to me obviously, but I dont want somethign that has bass that'll sound like a rocket is blasting off right next to my ear. Powerful bass is nice, but dont overdo it. Also, I learned to appreciate treble as I started out on Sony Giiq's (yeah you can all laugh now, but we all started somewhere!).
- DURABILTIY. BIIIG ONE RIGHT HERE.
- Comfortability. These'll be everywhere with me. When I eat, when I'm walking home, when I'm in my room, etc. Gotta be comfortable around the next and on the ears :)
- Some styling. Im not asking for super stylish ones, as even the MDR-V6 Sony's are decently styled enough for me, but lets not pick out the ugliest headphones of life :frowning2: Like the GS1000s (dont bite me D: I know they sound like an angel's choir, I just dont like how they look, thats it.)
-I'll probably be running the Fiio E6 with it. It's getting shipped to me as we speak, so I dont know what else to say about em other than the headphones will be amplified most of the time.

Thanks! :) Hope I can get some help here! :)

Sony V6/7506 is an excellent budget headphone with good balance and durability.

Looking for something around $200

If anyone uses IEMs, I really enjoyed the sound signature my RE0s (besides build quality).

Something that's bright, transparent, analytical and articulate. As well as a spacious soundstage.

Suggestions?

AKG K701
Audio Technica AD700/900

Hey. First poster here.
Looking for a pair of headphones with extreme noise isolation. My home tv is in the same room as my computer as well as a wood stove with a VERY loud blower. Im looking to eliminate these noises as much as possible. (ambient noise is almost always over 70 decibels)
Price range : 150 but cheaper is better (<100 would be great)
Primary function: Noise is olation
I own a pair of Semnheiser HD 555s (foam modded) and love the comfort and sound quality. But when i want some peace and quiet they really do not cut it.
I would perfer passive noise cancelling if possible as the sound from the tv varies alot and i doubt active noise cancellation would be very effective. I dont care about brand/portability or sound quality. These are for studying purposes.
Some models i have thought of :
Koss QZ5
Audio Technica ATH-ANC7D
Beyerdynamic DT770
thanks a ton.

The Senn HD280 is king of isolation in the budget end. The DT770pro is actually a touch better, though I'm not sure if you'll be able to find it below $150. (it's usually closer to $180-200)

hey guys. now that ive got my the iems that i wanted, its time to ask for a full size for christmas. im really looking for accurate reproduction, a flat frequency reponse and im hoping to keep it under $100, what would you guys reccomend. so far ive only really looked at the Sennheiser HD448, akg k99 or k240, CAD MH310 audio technica aths, sony mdr

i want an over the ear design. also would having an open back make them more comfortable in the long run? thanks so much

again looking for accurate reproduction. both my iems are balanced armature based, i really like to hear the music as it should be. thing is, today i put on my friends cans and my god the soundstage was so much nicer sounding right off the bat, so i want to get myself a pair.

thanks so much!

Open backed headphones do not heat up as much as closed ones, so are more comfortable in that regard.

Maybe a Senn HD555 or a 558 on sale?

So, I know I have posted a lot to this thread, but I think I want to ask a question this time.  I have Sennheiser HD595, Denon AH-D1100, and had Grado SR-60i.  I figure, the Senns and Denons are some thick sounding headphones, and I am looking for something a bit airy and light.  IDK, something a little less bass heavy than the Senns or Denons.  Not a pair of Grados, nothing treble hot or grating.  So far, I have been looking at the Audio Technica ATH-AD900.  The graphs for the AD900 look amazing.

Even before I finishe reading, the Audio Technicas were coming to mind. Purrin's got some crazy graphs of the AD2000 which actually seem faster than the LCD2 at times.

The AD2000s are way out of my reach.  The great thing is that it doesn't exactly look like these need much of an amp either.  I imagine they improve with an amp, but one shouldn't be necessary.  Correct?

The winged audio technicas really don't need much in terms of amping. They're all low impedance with relatively high sensitivity.

Looks like the AD900 is about $200-230 new. The AD2000's apparently go for about $300 USD used in Japan. If only shipping weren't so high...

Low $200s are my limit, which the AD900s fall in perfectly.  They would be for christmas, so getting new would be necessary.  Comfort wise, how do you think they compare to the Sennheiser HD595/598s?  Also, are they hard to get a proper seal?  I know they are open, but I always like the get a good fit.  Also, how do you think they would do with rock?  Not looking for superforwardness just a bit more bite in the treble than my HD595s.

After an opamp upgrade, the Xonars sound good, really good.  IMO, I say getting the Xonar is a better decision if you are wanting something cheap.  However, remember, it isn't portable.  You can't just plug it into another computer without taking the first one apart.

Some say get a Desktop DAC/AMP is better than getting a Xonar DG. what you guys think?

Hi again guys.
Back to scratch.
I cant find any good used Denon AH-D2000 in my country so I am forced to find a nother pair of HP.
I have tried the Shure SRH840 as I was suggested and I like the sound, they just had too little bass. And they were UNCOMFORTABLE! too heavy and the headband is really bad.
What should I go for?
price is 200 euros roughly.

I personally find the Audio Technicas very comfortable, but also quite loose. For me they don't really seal so much as simply rest of my head. On the other hand, I have a friend who actually bikes with an A700 so they seem secure enough on his head.

Compared to the Senn, they have a little less midbass and a bit more treble bite.

If the Shure 840 is not enough bass... you're into Sony XB700 and Ultrasone Pro900 territory then.
