I made my first major headphone purchase last year with my AD700s and I love them but now I'm in the market again. This time I'm looking for a set of cans that have a contrast to the AD700s. I need them around the same price($100ish) and they need to be able to do well without amplification(because I have none lol). Here are some stuff I remember might be what I am looking for. Alessandro MS-1 Grado SR80 Do you think you could help me find a second pair with a more "fun" sound signature? Thanks so much in advance.

ATH M50. I feel like I've just blindly thrown these out about 50 times lately... Maybe It's because I'm considering buying them.

The grado's will be different, but some people call the AD700s a milder version of the grado sound, dunno how true that is though.

You can try some beyerdynamics, or some sennheisers (don't know what models go in the $100 range)

Or perhaps some sonys will float your boat :D

I second the M50's, and I've owned both =) It's also nice to have a closed headphone.

The SR-80 could be a good choice as well - I've tried the SR-60's and was unimpressed by their lack of bass and bad fit, but the 80's may improve on the bass.

Creative Aurvana Live for $70 off Amazon.  Rebranded Denon D1001.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I realized after attempting to reply that my phone wasn't to happy with whatever script is used for actually posting and I couldn't reply until today since I am home and FINALLY have the internet(I've been without it for awhile now).

Anyway, here is some things to help you guys out.

Bass - I just want to further emphasize what I'm looking for. It has to be nice and strong but definitely not overbearing. I need something that does well in bringing out the low end without sacrificing actual sound quality of the mid range and high. My AD700s have nice bass response in my opinion but they just lack that punch and power that I'm looking for now.

Genres - I'm looking for it to favor Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, and Pop. I don't care too much if it doesn't handle classical the best in the world but I would like it to do well with songs that have heavy jazz elements or just jazz in general.

Soundstage - Don't care too much about this but tt is always appreciated I guess. I love my AD700's soundstage and all but I'm looking for a contrast here so I wouldn't mind if the soundstage wasn't the biggest in the world.

I wouldn't mind something with a warmer sound as well. I've heard that my AD700's are pretty "cold" sounding in comparison to some other cans so it'd be cool to see the other sound but as long as they favor the genres I'm going for, then I'm happy.

The M50's sound exactly like what I'm going for to be honest...but the cost a lot. I'm looking for that $100 range but anywhere that has them near that is sold out. 120-130 is just above my budget. I'm so upset because they sounded so nice too...

The D1100's are also a good choice but once again, they are out of my price range for the most part.

The Aurvana look ok but I'm not sold on them.

If you liked the M50's sound signature you may like the Shure SRH750dj sound, and they are around $130

So, the OP claims that $130 is above his budget, and your reply is to recommend headphones that cost $130? B-Dawk, consider the AKG K518LE.  The blue ones on Amazon are $75 right now, which unexplicably is $50 cheaper than any of the other colors.

You can always take a look at the F/S forum if you dont care buying used (less than $100)...and yes i said $130 for a NEW pair.

Oh, and I didn't mean to imply I listened to the M50's. I meant they seem like what I am looking for in a headphone. I unfortunately live nowhere near a headphone store so I can't actually test any of these myself *sigh*

No, I'm not one for used headphones right now. I only own two so I'd like to be able to experience it from day one with a new pair.

I haven't heard them either... Headphone shops are far and few.
