Ultrasone Pro 900 Impressions Thread

The M-Stage ever so slightly tames the highs, so it does a good job of reducing any sibilance or harshness in the Pro 900, while still allowing the treble to remain extended.  The amp has a great warmth and body to it, so it does great with the Pro 900.

And I can even get one from Germany (= no sales tax or customs) for about $300 shipped, brand new. Kinda hard to argue with that... The only thing keeping me from it is the Matrix Quattro, a balanced amp that's basically two Matrix M-Stage bolted together for balanced operation.

Nice gear..
I would also love to get my hands on the Quattro...

Btw guys i received the silver ear pads from Ultrasone/Germany today and i have to say i am in love with them tottally..
It's not only the looks, stereo image is improved and the sub bass is amazing now..
To hell with JMoney pads, the silver ones are so awesome and softer than the black ones..

I'm gonna go with the Matrix as soon as funds allow, then start saving for the Matrix Quattro. I won't be drilling holes in the right cup of the Pro 900, but I'll be hard-wiring a 4-6 feet cable to the left cup, removing the current 3.5mm socket but utilizing the same entry hole. That cable (4 conductors) will be terminated in a 4-pin XLR which I can the connect to a 6.3mm stereo plug for unbalanced use, 2x 6.3 mm mono plugs for balanced use with the Matrix Quattro or just use it as-is with a balanced amp using XLR connectors. That way it'll be easily reversible as well :)

I don't see how you could perceive an increase in sub bass from changing the color of the pads. They are ever so slightly softer but there is absolutely no change in the sound between the stock and silver pads. If anything due to the softer nature of the silver pads you should loose some bass quantity because they arn't quite as brick like as the stock pads to contain the sound.

But then again people told me the same thing about the blue dragon cable and yet I can hear big changes...

Are those J$ pads that you used or other ones? I have been searching for some good leather pad mods for the 900, only "easy" thing that comes to mind would be using DJ1 pads.. but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them.

I would like to reiterate how freaking awesome these sound with the Zo. On bass level three, I was listening to Flux Pavilion's Bass Cannon, and I reached up to scratch my manly stubble and I literally felt the skin on my cheek vibrating. And no distortion!!

Ridiculous.

I really love these headphones especially the bass but after 20hrs of burn-in process, the bass seems to disappear. I mean the bass is still there but not as punchy and deep than before. Is this really normal and part of burn-in?

I am very happy to hear this. I am in the market for a portable amp and the ZO has really caught my eye. It seems like it would be useful on all of my headphones. I wish I could put a preorder in for the ZO.2 right now so I can stop constantly checking their Facebook and Twitter pages.

Many have reported that bass disappears and reappears with burn-in.  Just keep listening, it'll come back.
