They seem to be very close until about 2K - at least much closer than I would have imagined given the vast difference in their sound. Of course, I could be completely full of it.

Relative to the FR comparisons between different models of the Grado line (even from the SR-60 to the RS-1), the differences shown in your graph are insignificant.

Perhaps it means that these types of measurements are insignificant? When I just checked the sr80 vs. the sr60 vs. the sr40 it shows the bass of the sr60 to be superior to the sr80 by a pretty wide margin. I can't remember reading that by any reviewer here. It may be meaningless but just in case anyone want's to compare frequently discussed headphones here is the link:

Actually I think it is true that the bass on the sr60s is better than the bass on the sr80 (when using the same pads on both--I used modded senn pads). The sr60 has a fuller and warmer bass response while, in comparion, the sr80 had a recessed and more neutral sounding bass response. To my ears the bass of the sr80 is too recessed and this is one of the reasons why I prefer the sr60 to the sr80. You'll also notice on Headroom's frequency charts that the sr60 looks to have better bass extension than the sr225--I agree with this. To my ears the sr225 (with the same modded senn pads) has a boosted upper bass response and mediocre bass extension. In comparsion the bass of the sr60 sounds more extended and balanced although a little less detailed.

Just my take. Keep in mind to that the sound of Grado phones can change a lot depending on on the pads used. I don't remember Headroom ever saying what pads they used on the Grados during their tests.
