Hi, currently I own the Shure 750DJ and honestly I think they are quite good (Unamped, I only use an amp for when I sing, I'm not exactly sure how to get a amp for say a ipod, need help there to xD) Now, the reason I'm asking a good comparison is that I may return these because I find that the music I listen to (melodeath like dark tranquility, arch enemy) like really heavy metal stuff sounds out of place on these, like almost like I'm listening to them from default computer speakers. They are however AMAZING for RnB, Trance, Dubstep. I noticed the Sennheiser HD595 are more personal then studio, so I'm wondering if they sound better, unamped, and also if they sound well amped (well when I amp them its manly just for me singing, not really music). My price range is about $150, maybe $200 pushing it. so if there are better headphones then the ones listed, please suggest them thanks. Also, as I stated before, if theres any portable amps (for ipods) that would actually make a difference (all this is new to me) please suggest them, thank you. I'm slowely moving towards audiophile but I don't want to spend 500+ xD.

By the way, this paragraph may be really out of place xD, I was kinda just letting it flow as I asked, it may be a bit mixed up, if so srry.

Thanks

EDIT: I am also willing to just keep these if you guys claim that a amp will most definetly make them much better, if so I can't decide on a portable amp.

If you're looking for the HD595s, buy the HD555s and take of the little sticker pad thingy on the headphones. This small very very easy mod will allow you to have nearly the same sound (if not nearly exactly the same) as the HD595 at a highly discounted price. Look up more info on the mod on this site.

The HD555 is completely different than the SRH750. The sound is more laid back, much better soundstage, less (and IMO worse bass). Its also open compared to the SRH750 which is closed. I find that the HD555 is excellent for the price, but it just wasn't what I was looking for in sound. It does handle classical and various instrumental type music very well though. It really depends on what you want, both the SRH750 and the HD555 offer their own strengths and are both excellent purchases. They are extremely different though.

In terms of amping. Personally I feel that both headphones do not benefit a HUGE deal from amping, especially from a cheap portable amp. There is a difference, but if I were you I would invest in headphones then later consider an amp.

Take a look at M50, SRH840, maybe some Beyers (if you can shell out a little more), Ultrasones (if you can pay just a little more), etc. At the moment though any headphone you buy around the 100-150 price range will be pretty much a sidegrade, you will be purchasing for a different sound, but not necessarily a better headphone. Personally I would save up a little and take a look at headphones under $250. This price range will pretty much open up all mid-fi headphones for you to consider, rather than a couple of lower end mid-fi headphones.

Happy buying!

Np. I try not to recommend heapdhones I haven't tried, but Amazon has a good deal for the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II adidas version in your budget. Its a decent deal so you can consider jumping on it. Its a portable closed can. Has overall very positive reviews.

I'm not sure what you mean by open or closed, but if u mean around the ears I prefer that as to on the ears. Bass is, important to a extent that the rest of the music is up to par, I don't need heavy heavy bass but yes a good punch is always welcome. I actually have grown on my 750djs, I changed the eq on my ipod off (had it on rock) and let it burn in for awhile and there sounding better =D
