Markl or recable first?(Denon D2000)

I don't really think there is a recommended order to modding. Personally, I'd go with the MarkL mod first as that changed the sound pretty drastically on my former pair of D2000s. I'd also suggest that you do the mod in stages until you get the sound you want, as you might not like the changes(damping the cup, half of the driver, then the other half). I'm not really sure how much a recable will contribute to the sound but I'm a skeptic myself so I'll leave that to someone else.

If you have a balanced amp or plan to get one in the near future, I think the Jena Labs re-cable with balanced XLR terminations is worth looking into.  I only have a psuedo-balanced amp (the Protector), but the improvement that going balanced gave my D2000s over single-ended is very noticeable.  Much more clarity and a wider soundstage.  I even prefer my LA2000 over my Edition 8 for the time being, albeit the Ed. 8 is single ended and I don't have a good SE amp.

If you're on a more limited budget and just want to see how much a mod might help, I would suggest the J$ pads or Markl mod first.  Those seem to be the most cost-efficient mods.

Sorry for responding to the thread so late. But if there is no specific order I would like to recable because the D2000 cables are just terrible. I want to do it with apuresound cables because they are a lot cheaper than Jena labs cables. And I have no experience with modding headphones so I can't DIY. Also I am out of a job and can't find work at the moment so might do these upgrades in the coming months. But if anyone has a better suggustion please tell me.
