I usually listen to Spotify and wondered if any of you lot could recommend a free EQ, that does the job

My Dell pc came with "Realtek HD audio manager" which is pretty poor.

It's a VST plugin, so it requires a player that supports it. It will install straight-out for Winamp, and you can use it on foobar2000 with this VST wrapper.

EDIT: Oops just realized you're gonna be using Spotify's client. I have no idea how you can use a VST plugin with it, sorry...

No worries, thanks for trying.

I played around with the Realtek one I have and after a few tweaks and 10 minutes messing around it does sound better now.

Found out that I could save various customisable presets, so I have one for "speakers" saved and also one for "headphones", I guess you could save tonnes for Rock, R&B , Rap, Classical etc.

Yep, I have a Realtek onboard here as well, and the EQ is quite decent actually (at least as long as you don't have hi-end equipment, in which case you probably wouldn't be using Realtek anyway). If you don't exaggerate with the sliders and do a proper equalization it works well.
