1964 Ears

I've had the SE535 and have the SD2 & V6 Stage.

To my ears the SD2 sounded better (more detail & separation) than the SE535 (found the highs to harsh & sold it), so probably it's also better than the cheaper SE425 which you asked for earlier.

Although the SD2 lacks a little in the bass department (but you can adjust that with your source), it's still a great iem and I've decided to keep it, even now I have the V6 Stage. Yes, the V6S has definitely better SQ than SD2, but the SD2 is really ''bang for buck''. Imo you can't go wrong with either of them, let the wallet decide :D

Btw, here's a list with many reviews that also contains SE535, SD2 & V6S:

How would you scale the performance of the v6s to the SD 2s? I'm like 16 so I'm pretty hesitant about customs cause I'm afraid my ears would change in time to come?

They do universals as well if you request.

But for the same price isn't it more worth to get customs? Btw just to clarify I've not had any experience with customs and I'm coming from a pair of SE425s

Worth is relative. There are always trade-offs. CIEMs, while providing superior sound quality, are fidgety to clean and repair. Not to mention that they're limited to your use only, making it quite hard to resell. You're giving up convenience for functionality. To some people it might be worth it, to others it might not be. Of course, you could get a pair of Shure SE846s with custom sleeves, but its sound signature won't please everyone. Even if you love the signature, it doesn't have the same novelty as CIEMs, which is something you can truly call your own.

Oooo I love the 846s very much and I have had demoed them before haha. But they're super pricey, I think more than a custom pair of v6s from what I can get in SG. The SD 2s are pretty fantastic and I have also had the chance to demo them. Out of the three (846/V6s/SD2) that I'm considering they are the cheapest. I'm just more curious on how much better the V6s is compared to the 2 universals, as I haven't had a chance to demo them and I'm not sure when or if I'll ever be able to.

That's the thing with CIEMs, you will have to go out of your way to demo them, but I do believe 1964 ears has a demo program. It requires a hefty deposit though. And yes the 846s are quite expensive. I just purchased a pair and am eagerly awaiting their arrival. I believe I'll take a short break from spending more money on audio equipment in the meantime. Haha

Difference is mainly isolation. Everything else is the same, so if your universal gives you the perfect fit the sound should more or less be similar to the custom version.

You're talking about Music Sanctuary. If my memory didn't fail me, E1 also have demo units for the 1964 line.

I'd go for music sanctuary. Price is more reasonable and service is great :)

I haven't dealt with Music Sanctuary before so I can't say anything about them, but if you're just looking to demo the 1964 line, E1 isn't a bad place to do it. But of course when it comes to ordering a pair, we all like to get the best bang for our bucks.

On a side note, I've heard Music Sanctuary will be opening a physical space somewhere in town.

Hey, I didn't know all of you were Singaporean. *waves* Looks like 1964 Ears has quite a number of SG fans here on Head-Fi.

Anyway, I'm interested in getting either a V3, Qi or a V6-Stage. The V3 and V6-Stage are well regarded here, but there are almost no reviews or impressions of the Qi. Has anybody managed to compare these 3?

My V8's have been "assembled" - the V6S has not and it was the first one ordered - by a couple days - they are to ship them together so it isn't a biggie... Can't wait.

EDIT: With regard to a headphone being slower - there are times I will listen to one of my headphones with a piece of music I know backwards and forwards and it will sound "slower" - I think I have identified why (at least for me) when I am listening to a headphone that is reproducing EVERYTHING - all frequencies equally and not missing anything, it can be so rich with detail and sound that it slows down the music for me - there is so much to hear - so many instruments to wade though as it passes - my attention is complete. Like a rich cup of espresso with sugar and real cream - it takes up the same space as a cup of tea, but there is so much more flavor, that even if I take the same gulp, it lasts so much longer because there is such a complexity of tastes...

I don't know - maybe I'm off on a tangent....

Perhaps. Either way, from past experience I know that I always need to let a new headphone/iem grow on me for a little while before I can start appreciating them. And usually my first impression is that I'm underwhelmed. Will see in the coming days if I change my mind about the V6S. Will probably send back the demo on Saturday or Monday.
