I'm looking at a NAD 7225 integrated amp on ebay. The auction ends tomorrow morning! Is this thing any good? I've turned up nothing on google. It should be decent right? Price is hopefully under $150.

I wouldn't pay more than that. is it the receiver or integrated amp? You are talking about an item that's over 10 yrs old.
Saturday audio has the 20watt version for 110 and a rotel 30wpc int amp for 129.

Description says integrated amp and receiver. He also says some bs about 150 watts total power, doesn't say at what ohmage or the per channel breakdown. Apparently it's rated 25wpc.

I think that's a receiver. Did he have a picture of the back?
Back in those days, the speaker connections were terminal blocks and not binding posts? Does it have the pre outs and in's so you can use it with a more powerful amp using the receiver as a pre amp? (and to add a sub)
I'm assuming he's selling as is. NAD makes solid equipment and like everything else, if it works during the first ninety days, it's gonna last.

Yes apparently, it is "merely" a receiver, though a google search told me it was an integrated unit (7225PE) with 25wpc. Conflicting search result reported 20wpc. It doesn't have pre-outs, just 4 binding posts for 2 sets of speakers.

I would gladly pay $150 for the 10 yr+NAD, than one today's chip based amps .

Looks like it sold for about $150 shipped. I let it slip by. Oh well, there are other amps out there to be had for a bargain price...

I'm currently looking at another 7225 with a broken tuner. Maybe I'll get a break on it.

Saturday audio exhange has the NAD 3220PE for $110.
I've bought many things from them, sometimes they have really good prices. That's when I jumped on them and called.

you mean the amp is a classic?

I was also looking into the nad 314, which is 35wpc.

Do you think the 3220pe would have enough good power to drive some psb alphas or the like?

The 314 is a newer model (saturday has it for $189)
I don't know about you but I really like how the old NAD stuff looks. Someone will probably know about the PSB's.
It should mate well since NAD used to package their L40 line with PSB speakers.

189 for the 314 is a bit stiff for me, though 35wpc does sound a bit, hm, healthier than 20 wpc. Good for the soul, you know what I mean?

I'm trying to piece together a system for as close to $200 as possible, so the 3220pe at $110 is barely within reach. Truth be told, after shipping, it's not technically in reach. These bidders on ebay are just too sharp for me! They're killing all the deals I'm keeping tabs on!

For speakers, I'm looking at some paradigm atoms just because they're cheap, and if that auction falls through, then I may consider the psb alphas. I hope I can snag those atoms for <$100!

The "PE" refers to the Power Envelope circuitry, which was quite good at providing high dynamic power despite the amp having relatively low continuous power. Proton used to have the same type of circuitry in its integrated and power amps.

Oh yes, the NAD 3020 is a true classic. Many companies tried to use the same moniker to conjure up the same type of product, like the AMC 3020 integrated amp and even NAD itself.

Looks very likely that the 314 auction will not slip through the cracks :\ I may go for that 3020 after all.
