So about 10 months ago I bought a pair of beyerdynamic dt 770's off of an ebay reseller who regularly sold dozens/hundreds of them. Lately however I've noticed some distortion on the left cup whenever there's heavy bass, making it sound like an overstressed cheap sub with some crackling. So now I'm wondering if I'm outta luck when it comes to the warranty repairs. I have the blue warranty information card they sent in the box, but since I bought it off of ebay and not an "authorized reseller" will it be void?

There are a few threads about common causes for this if you do a search.  When this happened to mine, I popped them open, pulled a single hair out with tweezers and the problem was solved.

Warranty is void unless it's from an authorized dealer. The reason is because there are far too many counterfeits being made and sold over the web particularly ebay. I'm surprised not too many people on here know this already. If they're selling it in bulk with no box or warranty, be suspicious. If the seller is selling personal items and a pair of nice headphones just happens to be in the batch, I figure it wouldn't be bad to ask the seller some questions regarding where he got the HP, about warranty and etc.

Yea, I've read that, but I also read it voids your warranty, which I'd rather not do. If however it turns out I don't have a warranty to begin with, then I'm all for it lol

He was a very high rated seller, and it came in the original box with a specification/features sheet and a warranty information paper. I doubt they're counterfeit as they sound amazing compared to my sennheiser 280's but the thought had crossed my mind before. Any telltale signs?

if the reseller is authorized and sells on ebay i think its still okay. the receipt wont say ebay on it. the invoice and receipt will have the resellers info on it. IE razordogdeals. or whatever. Brian is the owner and his senns come with warranty.

Hmm interesting, I can't remember exactly who it was bought from since ebay purges history after 60 days, but paypal shows a $180 charge to B&H photo video right around the time it was bought it, so I'm assuming that that's for the beyerdynamics. It doesn't list any details like what the purchase was for or anything, just that $180 was sent to B&H. I'm sure I could find out more details if I spend more time on it, but what I have learned was that my girlfriend, who bought them for me as a present for christmas last year, bought a warranty for them at the same time through squaretrade, so looking at what that'll do for me now.

For items still covered by a manufacturer warranty at the time of claim: First, we will help you file a claim with your manufacturer.

If the manufacturer replaces or repairs your item, your SquareTrade Care Plan will cover your manufacturer repaired or replaced item.

If the manufacturer refuses to honor their warranty because they consider your item grey market or not purchased from an authorized retailer, we will still cover you.

Thank god she had the foresight to spend the $15 on insurance
