Regarding the power supply capacitors - I usually go for 16 V / 1000 uF Rubycon XYF capacitors because of the cost and size. It all depends on what you have at hand and available to you.

There should be no need to put a switch to select your power supply capacitance - you will quickly realise which you prefer and never use the switch again

" width="" /> I think that 330 uF is the accepted minimum capacitance for each rail of a CMoy power supply (someone correct me if I'm mistaken please!), but sometimes I go to 1500 uF and there is a noticeable difference in rail stability on the 'scope, as well as final sound output (better bass, cleaner sound...)

If you have a few quid and the space to add these, I'd go for 4x 330-1000 uF and put 2 on each rail in parallel, effectively doubling the ripple current capability and ~halving the ESR.

This is quite a journey you are potentially taking the first steps on and I'm only explaining what I have found that I like (and I have so, so much more to learn) - if you want the full experience and have a bit of time, build it to the schematic and modify it. Do your own tests with different power supply configurations - voltage dividers versus rail splitter IC's, different capacitor values and models...

And have fun!!! You obviously have the confidence to do this, so enjoy the learning experience!

Err. I started with 220uF...then went  straight for 4700uF 25v caps, still useing the simple cmoy spliter.

@ OP.

build it to specs on tangents website first, then play around with modifing it so u can see how it changes, power caps are very cheap and input caps as well, the most expensive part is getting started and putting it all to gether, once done the major cost is over, unless u are planning to redo it like I am.
