Dec 1, 2003 at 6:09 PM Post #2 of 14
Matt "leaked" these pics (post on ipodlounge.com) of the soon to be released (Jan '04?) Shure E3C which will replace the E1:

I would still like to hear more about them straight from Matt and Shure - please.......

[edit] should have searched the boards before I posted this - just found the thread where you folks are already way ahead of me with these pix

The release of the E3c will be sooner than next year. How soon? I am not totally sure. But orders from some companies have already been placed.

This is what I partially know about the E3c.

It has a low mass/high energy driver, smallest enclosure in the Shure E Series, smoother and more extended high-frequency response, balanced armature drivers, one of the lightest (weight) earphones making them perfect for portable listening, includes the same fit kit as the E2c.

It whoops the er-6 and comes close to the E5c. I am not sure about how close it comes to the er-4. I am hoping to try it out sometime when they come out. But by the looks of things now it might be a little hard to do so.

From page 53 of the 2004 Music Direct catalog that came today:

E3c Sound Isolating Earphones
The E3c features an efficient low mass/high energy driver and the smallest enclosure in the Shure E Series. This is their latest model, and has a smoother, more extended high-frequency response coupled with a compact and lightweight design. The E3c is particularly appropriate for use with custom ear sleeves that can be precisely fitted by a hearing specialist - following your purchase - for the ultimate in fit and comfort. Balanced armature drivers provide powerful, high-performance audio output in an extremely small format. The ultra lightweight construction makes them one of the lightest earphones available anywhere for portable listening applications. they are ideal for sports, exercise, or any activity where headphones or ear buds may come loose. Like the E2c, the E3c ships with a fit kit, so you can insure the best possible fit with your ear. $179.99

I was able to try the prototype pair out at the AES expo where I met Matt/Sugarfried. I'm still not sure I'm supposed to be talking about them really, but maybe when they officially come out, or when someone official comments on this thread, I can divulge some more details and my impressions.

Stupid_girl: Respectfully, what are you basing those statements on?

could you at least say if you'd think it'd be worth getting an er4 now or waiting for the coming e3?

I was out all last week on vacation, and yesterday I had to deal with some car trouble, so it's more of a coincidence, unfortunately.

You guys are definitely sharp, no doubt. I'm impressed by the sleuths here.

Current availability date looks to be early January. Monday the 5th is probably the best bet. I believe that our website will go live on Friday, but nothing will ship until next year.

uoods: feel free to post your thoughts. I appreciate your discretion up to this point. I'm glad that you came to AES, and it was great to get your thoughts back then.

I've had contact with a few (very cool) people here at Head-Fi during the development of the E3/E3c. I appreciate all of the comments both on and off the board.

Thanks Matt. I'm going to read between the lines a bit and assume that what folks are saying is substantially true. I am still eager to get more info directly from you.

Sounds like you've given the "go ahead" to your insiders here on head-fi to start talking about what they've heard....

I think I'm already sold. If they are built as well and are as comfortable as E2s, and sound as good as/better than ER4p...
