I have been searching a while now for a very good portable amp with a very good low frequency bass boost. I nearly bought the arrow 12he but I would prefer to have a built in usb dac as some portable amps have. Has anyone come across something like the arrow but also has a built in usb dac that you can recommend?

The Practical Devices XM5 has a DAC, li-ion battery option and switchable bass boost (note: not variable bass boost, just a push-pull switch)

There is a Practical Devices XM6 now that is being evaluated by HK_sends. There is also the USB Stick that is being developed by Headphonia but is on hold/further development.

intteresting
i bbcame intested in the xm5 when i learned it was a mini3 copy? and i probably would have got one if the bass boost had 3 settings similar to the way rsa implements gain, that would be cool
but the new lisa is coming out and that should be the best portable with a variable bass boost, i really cannot speak higher of a portable amp. ah but no dac.  but i plan on the udac2 plus new lisa as my portbale amp/dac.
i think the fiquest has bass bosst?? anyone?? that is also a top contender.
unitll they make more dap's with 10 band style eq like cowon, there will be a need for bass boost on portable amps.

yes the FiQ has bass boost, but no dac, in fact the FiQ bass boost is really well implimented, its a 3 position switch, but has all the adjustment needed. sounds really good with bass light headphones and even better if you tweak the gain R's and bass boost caps with mundorf MKP caps and Zfoil resistors as I have.

Since the XM5 has so many options, I wonder what the XM6 would bring, aside from better implementation
There's a host of other portable amps with bass boost from Microshar http://microshar.org/shop.php?cPath=23&osCsid=b2cdcdb865c09bd6dbb2afc621d83eac
TBH I have not tried it yet, but it could be a rival to the XM5 in terms of bass boost

I like the look of those amps if it weren't for the mere 6db bass boost, when compared to the arrow's 18db (9 + 9) <100hz!

Can anyone comment on the arrows new 18db boost?
