To me, the LCD-2 is the next logical step if you like the HD-650 sound signature. It improves on every aspect of the HD650s sound, but retains a dark, warm, and lush character. Like the HD650, the LCD-2 scales well and responds well to amplifiers with different sound signatures. You can tailor the sound of both of these headphones, depending on your amp choice. I don't have much listening time with the HD800, but it has very different sound signature with a lot more treble energy. Thanks for the advice!
I've ordered both the LCD-2 and HD800... but being in Canada, the return process would be quite a lot harder.
So I will likely sell one once I figure out which I truly prefer!

Any suggestions for an affordable, light, flexible balanced cable? Silver preferred. I don't care about sound differences.post #755 of 12391/9/13 at 11:29am- LugBug1

Quote:Toxic is probably the most affordable make, and the cables are very well made - light, flexible. But there can be quite a wait. Just email Frank from toxic cables (on here) and he'll advise you the most affordable option.

Toxic sounds great if you're in GB, but in the states I highly recommend Double Helix.

Toxic cables look nice but their prices don't, and I'm not in GB so it would be even more. Previous silver cables I've gotten were ~$100 complete. Flexibility though was not ideal.post #758 of 12391/9/13 at 3:38pm- preproman

Quote:Wow.
Both LCD-2 and HD800 have arrived.
I'm absolutely blown away by the LCD-2. There's a huge difference in the sonic "punch" of the LCD-2 and the visceral way it presents the music. Thick, smokey, juicy.
The HD800 is almost... tinny to me. Lots of air, nice and clear... but it doesn't take me anywhere magical when I close my eyes.
I'm going to let both of these burn in, as well as my brain, but right now it seems the LCD-2 is the way to go for sure, coming from HD650.

Yeah your audio chain might need some work in order to get your HD800s to sound good. The LCDs are much more forgiving.

Oh happy day! I feel the same way about the LCD-2 and was pretty sure you'd love it based on your experience with the HD-650. The sound is really extraordinary--especially the accurate way it reproduces the natural timbre of instruments. I need to listen to the HD800 through a few more amps, but the signature probably doesn't work for me. If I wanted an airier signature, the HE-6 seems a lot more balanced and cohesive.
I've been doing some research on hearing and apparently, breeds of dogs have differing sensitivities to different frequencies within their normal hearing range. It seems that humans might have similar variations in frequency sensitivity (although I haven't found a paper yet). Maybe people have different "auditory phenotypes" that can at least partly explain why we like the sounds of certain headphone signatures and dislike others.

Hi
I'm on the Schiit threads and I see some familiar names.
I've been enjoying a set of LCD2 rev1 rosewood that I bought from daly. I just love them.
So much so that I sold my 2 month old HD650's and ordered a new
set of new bamboo rev 2
To my ears the HD650 weren't close. I loved them prior, then I couldn't listen to them.
I'm driving with a Lyr / Bifrost and an assortment of vintage tubes.
The LCD2' s are just .... Big. Like the best peach pie you ever ate.
I also decided to order a Gungnir to complement the other stuff... Can't wait.
Question:
The HD650's took a long time to break in. The rev1's I have are obviously broken in.
Do new LCD's require break in?

Mmmmm pie. I didn't notice any burn in at all on my LCD2.2s. They sounded perfect the instant I plugged them in.post #765 of 12391/10/13 at 6:27pm- Iamnothim

We have a BINGO !
Barry, that is exactly what I wanted to hear.
Next,
My sensibilities say that the Audeze cable, the same one used my FR Graph
Is probably pretty dang good.
My rev1's came with a "Q" cable that, although it's too short, it's damn cool.
I just came back from DHC cables we site. Can't spend that kind dough.
Ya'lls thoughts on "Q" cable? If I do, I'll have to use the magis attic with the wife.
