I'll send Jude a PM later today and see if he has any thoughts on it.

EDIT: PM sent.  Hopefully something will come of it...

I would love to see something like the AVS Forum's iPad/iPhone app. Best mobile forum experience I've used.

This.  Perhaps if this thread wasn't in the feedback forum, but instead was in a headphones forum...

How about setting up a Freemium model for Head-Fi? Sure, you can get a free membership, but for a few bucks, you get some extra perks. Flickr uses it (Flickr free vs. Flickr Pro) and over at Modaco.com, paying members (like $25 /year, like flickr) don't get any ads and access to cooking custom roms for their android phones.

How about Head-Fi Premium - $25 a year, no ads and access to Tapatalk/Mobile version? I know I'd pay up the second it was made available. We throw hundreds (well, thousands, for many of us) of dollars at our head-fi gear, often saving even more because of the huge tome of knowledge that is Head-fi.org. Would it be so bad to pay a small fee to support the site and get a few perks?

How about no. Why would members want to pay for access when most of the content on this site is user generated? If mobile access was only viable through an app I may consider paying for the app, mainly if it's to cover the cost of development. Why would anyone want to part with any more beyond that? Mobile devices are ubiquitous. Holding access through those means at ransom is stupid.

I'm sorry Sorensiim, but that's just a bad idea.  In fact I don't mind the ads too much.  I've actually purchased an item from a Head-Fi ad.  As long as Jude's business model of ad-based income remains to be a financial success for him, why would we want to pay for extra perks?  If users come to the site because of its content and usability, then all features should be free to all users.

it wont happen. doesnt generate them any profit and might not fly with the sponsors since all their ads will not show up on the mobile version.  no profit/profit loss = not gonna happen on headfi

On the old site, you could contribute and have the ads turned off. I found it worthwhile and would like to see it back.

It might be a good idea if Huddler developed a mobile app for iPhone and Android. Yes, I would pay for it. Also, it would make a nice selling point for getting other sites to convert. The percentage of mobile users will not be going down - it will be the primary form of going online in a few more years.
