The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

I think I've posted this before, but I am very anti-enhancements generally. I don't use EQ, I don't like tone controls, and I never use any of the DSP options on processors. So for me to be this much in love with the crossfeed circuit, that's really very unexpected. And of all my phones, the ones it works the best with are the T1s. If I were Jan, I'd develop a crossfeed buffer, of sorts, and market it as a stand alone product. It would sell like hotcakes!

TBIsone set on minimal crossfeed (it is a preset) is my solution with T1's. Locks it in with a perfect soundstage and adds no coloration. I use this in JRiver since it is transparent with plugins. Works so well I bet it is similar results to those you are getting with your amp crossfeed.

Yep I've decided to keep the Meier gear to drive the T1s. I also decided I can't do without crossfeed.

Smart choice, very versatile, I'm currently running an OPPO BDP-105 into the Daccord/Classic it's amazing.

lol, absolutely...every morning around this time I look forward to connecting my laptop to the USB, firing up BBAUS, and listening via the T1s...brings the house alive!

I've been watching this years BBUSA and it kind of sucks.  Big bouts of racism and bigotry, mixed with snitching and out of control arrogance, hard to watch.  I've been a BB fan since BB5.  How are you watching BBAUS?.

The differences of output impedance are so low that at 600ohms, there will likely not be a significant effect for the T1s. You may find a very slight change from the lowest to highest outputs, but I wouldn't expect to hear much if anything.

The outputs are 1, 2 & 11 ohm which would have significant impact on headphones up to about 100ohm. After that it'll become insignificant.

Thanks. I don't need to fiddle with the impedance switch then regardless whether I use an IEM or the T1.

As much as I enjoy listening to most of my music on my T1. There are a few tracks which I think sounded flat especially on the lows. e.g. Guns & Roses. I use a 24/96 file on my Macbook Pro and even at max volume/gain on my M8 the GnRs just sounded flat. I don't know if this is just a bad rip/recording of the tracks.

Now I'm curious if a desktop amp will make adifference.

Yep, it's the first time that I couldn't find a single person to root for. I was disgusted at the behavior of several of them and the final three are, IMO, the weakest, least interesting group ever. I give Andy credit for the way he framed Elissa in the eviction of Amanda, but that's about it. I don't even care who wins and I'm glad that at least two of these people lost their jobs outside of the house! lol

I'll PM you about BB Aussie...the format is entirely different than the US version, but this is by far my favorite cast ever. Every time I watch the show I just want to fly over to Oz and hang out with them. Unlike the US show where everyone pretty much sits around all day, Big Brother keeps them engaged and taking part in different activities. I look forward to watching it each day.

Chodi: Very nice! I honestly could not be without crossfeed now...I'm fully on board with the concept and I am 100% sold on the implementation. Glad to know other products involve such an option! The T1s were made for crossfeed, it seems like.

  Initial impressions:

  1. Great soundstage/imaging
  2. Comfy as all hell
  3. Bass is ok
  4. Treble is great
  5. Mids are definitely there
  6. Timbre can be a bit odd.

Overall pleased with the T1's

How do you mean timbre can be odd? (Not having a go at your opinion, just interested in your perspective)

Have you hit a track with sub-bass yet? I never cease to be impressed by the extension and presence of the T1s down really low.

Interesting. I wonder if the transparency of the T1s is allowing you to hear things you didn't before. Not saying you're wrong because sources and tracks are all different, but surprised to hear this said of T1s. It'll be interesting to hear further impressions over time...

T1 is more neutral and fast sounding than audeze and probably ms pro as well, thats probably what he means with unnatural timbre. I know the treble can be odd at times, without a tube amp, i dont think id find the t1 to be great at timbre either, though they do have a nice slight warmth in the mids and a clean decay, but i can agree the treble can be odd at times. Warm tube amps add body and euphonic warmth where its needed. I know off some amps, i definitely would hear some unnaturalness in the sound.

The t1 is pretty good at transparency though, alot more than most dynamics, but does fall short to planars which are basically grain free throughout the whole audio spectrum. Also t1 is very detailed and has great decay and transients, it never gets congested or muddy in the mids. The imaging is great as well

Ive only tried SR-009 lol, and it was with a LL and mytek 192 setup. Now i know the LL is not the best amp for them, so some issues i found must of been cause of that.

Anyways i was really surprised by how good the SR-009 are, not the extra transparency or detail that caught my attention, but the speed and the transients, just absolutely zero congestion, everything remains separated and fully resolved, it was something that no dynamic or planar can do. Only the Hd 800 out of zana deux or gsx mk2 come close, but its still not the same. The transients where the most impressive thing, the speed, the drivers can fully resolve every single sound in a recording.
