FYI, even though the Dr. Bott website said the T3 was backordered and would not ship until October, I received it on Friday.  Waiting for the CCK now.

AUDINST's HUD-mx1 USB DAC is possible!!

Using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit and the USB HUB, iPad can use the HUD-mx1.
(*The USB HUB must have the power supply.)

I got an Ibasso D zero and hooked it up to my iPad. At first I got a warning that it uses too much power. I restarted my iPad and voila it works. The orange light is on showing it is going through usb

I've tried the CCK with Maverick D1 DAC, on iOS 4.3.3, the pair won't work...

draws too much power it said.
I have used a powered hub, song played for 30-40 secs and then no sound at all...
Still try to figure out is it the D1 or my cheap USB hub.

Any solution?

Same problem here with an audio-gd fun with TE7022.. :frowning2:

The DAC works with a usb hub for a few minutes (3 or 4 minutes) and then stops/no sound at all. Sometimes I just need to press play to start playing, other times when I press play on the iPad it just starts playing on the iPad speakers.

Even if I disconnect and connect the CCK the results are the same.

Hi tiagotrindade, sorry for not updating my previous post.
Presently, I can use the CCK out to my D1 USB-in with a powered USB hub in-between,
the root cause of the previous problem was a faulty USB cable who connected the USB hub to CCK (USB power cable and USB cable connecting USB hub to DAC USB-in worked well).
I bought a better and solid USB cable to replace the culprit,
and now for approx. 1-2months I haven't experienced the same problem anymore.

I think you should check the USB hub and the USB cable.
Try to swap them if you have another pair.

Thank you for the help -su.

The problem was the fact that the CCK I bought was a chinese one from ebay (not the original Apple CCK).

I now bought a CCK from Apple and stopped having those issues.

Just need to connect the CCK to a USB hub (not powered) and then the USB hub to the Audio-gd FUN USB port :)

Hey, has anyone updated this post recently to reflect that the D100 does seem to work with the iPad now? I remember folks saying it didn't, and wasn't expecting it to.

My D100 is brand new, got it within this past month. The iPad is an iPad2 running the latest iOS 5, and everything (Netflix, music, etc) seems to work with no issue what-so-ever.

As a bonus, the iPad2 with a Smart Cover fits perfectly on top of the D100... I could see it being a really fantastic self-contained rig entirely on its own in a room. Very nice looking.

Apparently the Arcam rDAC can receive iPads and iPods via it's wireless digital input.

Great article John!  I've found the iPad to be a great part of my audio world using many of the set ups you talked about.

The only downside I've found with the CCK is that it is easy to knock loose when on the move, I wish it somehow locked on to the iPad connector.

Kao Audio UD2C-HP works perfectly with the iPad. Check out an article I wrote regarding iPad use (also to see some pics of the iPad in action).

Does the ckk only works with 24/96 locally stored files with FLAC Player?
Would it be possible to play HR files streamed from my NAS?

How do you connect the hp-p1 to the iPad with the ckk? USB to USB from the DAC to the iPad?
I've transfer some flac files (24/88 and 24/96) but the sound in the iPad with the hp-p1 is full of interferences, all distorted, i'm missing something for sure (and it must be obvious...), any insights?

Thanks!

BTW nice writing John, with valuable info, keep up the good work!

I agree though, it could be more stable. It has tiny prongs on the sides to help it clip in but they essentially do nothing.

The CCK will let you play local 24/96 files in the default player if you import them through iTunes. Obviously FLAC files would need to be converted to WAV, AIFF, or ALAC before the default player will recognize them. FLAC Player, Golden Ear, OPlayer lite, and some others can play local FLAC files.

Streaming from a NAS works with OPlayer, 8player, iMediaControl, SmartStor Fusion Stream, PlugPlayer.... I'm sure there are more. This assumes your NAS has some type of UPnP/DLNA setup - you can't just throw files on there without configuring everything.

Fostex HP-P1: you got it, just like that.

What program are you using to convert the FLAC files that you transferred? Maybe iTunes is handling the conversion and doing a bad job of it. I'd try Max to convert them prior, and see if that helps.

Hi again John,

Usually for converting FLAC files to AIFF i use Max or the built-in converter from amarra mini.
The method i used who gave me the issues i reported was with the FLAC player app installed in iPad, added 2 or 3 albums to test (browsed via the apps tab), connected the hp-p1 to the iPad and the outcome was an inaudible sound. I didn't test with the ckk because i don't have here any usb to usb to connect it.
But the only way to play 24/88 or 24/96 files is through the FLAC player isn't it?
Iv'e tried to sync the AIFF HR files from my music library to the iPad and got sync errors.
Am i thinking correctly?

Happy Xmas!
