Should HD-580s and HD-600 cost almost the same?

I see in Germany the price of the HD-600 has fallen but the HD-580 didnt fall as much. Now the price difference they sell for is like 20-40 EUROS max . Is it more fair now?

Should they? Who cares! The fact is that they do. I'd say go for the HD600 just cause I hate the HD580's build quality and looks compared to the HD600 which is so beautiful...and I thought HD600 sounded better too though that might've just been because it had a clou red cable upgrade.

The fact that the HD600 has fallen so much and the HD580 has remained rather stable says to me that the HD580 was always a rather good deal, while the HD600 was overpriced.

I remember seeing a pair of these in pics posted here a long time ago. To me they look better than both the 580s and 600s (I vehemently dislike the marble finish, although the metal grill is great). I can't remember exactly.. but I think they had the "natural" carbon fibre finish. Very nice

Well, at least it seems easier for the shopkeepers, now.

Because whenever I've looked at Saturn, Media-Markt et cetera during the last two years or so, there were always a few HD 600s on stock, while there was maybe one remaining dusty HD 580 box somewhere in a corner, if any... Thus the HD 580 has already mostly vanished from the German headphone mass market, because of the insignificant price difference.

Is someone in the market to purchase a HD600 or to sell a HD580?

I am. I want to upgrade to 580s jubilee or 600s. Not that I really excpect a difference. Just to upgrade you know.

Manfred in Saturn in Trier ,in July i saw they reduced the HD-600 from 345 to 199! I even saw a guy who was looking at some cheaper senns and he was really wondering what to buy. He had almost decided to buy some 120 EURO phones. So I went there and talked to him, and he was a bit afraid that I just went and talked to him without knowing him and he was a bit cold like some German people are when u dont know them. Anyway I asked him what music he listens to and he said classical. I pointed out the HD-600 which are a bargain for 200 EUROS. He pretended he didnt care much on what i told him and continued looking at the cheaper ones. And i went up to the next floor to browse the CDs and when I came back i looked at him from far and he was still looking the cheaper senns. Then he grabbed the HD-600 and went to the cashier. Btw is there a way to listen to the phones at the store there at Saturn?

And also doesnt the new system they have at Saturn for listening to CDs suck? I mean instead of listening to the CD you put it under the barcode scanner and just hear a crappy and cut mp3!

Slow Saturn reaction, nevertheless, because several mail order vendors over here have already offered the HD 600 at ~ 200 Euro level for years. But apart from a few special offers, our mass market stores like Saturn, Media-Markt et cetera nowadays are only good for near list price level, anyway...

And, yes and no - you can at least listen to several headphones under questionable conditions: Saturn usually has quite a big headphone board, unless they just rearrange the shops, which seems to happen every few months... *sigh*

And if you find a helpful sales person, which can happen sometimes, you can even listen to everything you want - you just won't find any dedicated headphone amp there. Personally, I think Saturn is good for a quick overview and brief first impressions of sound and comfort - and sometimes even for a good offer, like the DT531 for 99 Euro.

And yes, their cd listening stations somewhat suck - only good for brief impressions, either...

My guess is Sennheiser will be discontinuing the 580 soon. If I heard right, they wanted to a long time ago but I guess never did because of the failure of the 590 to take the place of the 580 (something like that?).

Now that the 650 is out, why do they need three models with a very similar sound, each simply improving on the previous? (well... I'd ask the same of Grado but they've had that strange scheme for quite awhile now
