Amp for Beyerdynamic DT990 600ohm?

I do very well with the Audiotailor Jade and the 600 ohm DT990.  However, my Jade is not stock as I have replaced all the electrolyitcs and upgraded the film caps and rolled some nice tubes in it.  Check out Skylab's review of some popular amps including the Jade.  At the time, he had a 600 ohm DT990.

Maybe not the best match, but.....I'm using a newly purchased BRAVO EH6922 tube hybrid amplifier, to power an old pair of 600 ohm, DT-990 Pro's, that I've owned for about a dozen years now.
I replaced the original BRAVO power supply, with an older Mean Well 24Vdc/6.5A power supply.
Sounds significantly better, as I thing the stock 1A power supply was a limiting factor?
Again, while certainly NOT a giant killer, it IS a significant upgrade from the old Marantz 2010 receiver, that I was using.

Have fun!

I find that the Elekit TU-882 is a perfect match for the DT990.  Very dynamic, musical and balanced.

I paired my beyer dt-990/600ohm with the Little Dot Mk IV se.

The Mk IV se being a OTL tube amp drives the 600ohm effordlessly. It has the finesse and power to produce a very powerful, big sound stage, detailed and smooth delivery at the high freq.

It does a spectacular job in tidying up the bass, producing well defined bass extension at the lower end and clean tight punchy bass at the higher low. I am a bass person and I know the dt-990 is exceptional in its bass delivery. It just need a equally articulate amp to match it. Good bass mustn't sound messy or bloomy. The Mk IV se delivers bass with a solid punch with sophistication.

Listening to vocals or instruments is great, really smooth and crystal clear without sounding too syrupy. I think beyer cans can be bright sounding out of the box , but not with the Mk IV se. One word if I have to describe vocal with the Mk IV se would be smooth and sweet.... make that two words. But don't  be fooled, vocals can be pushed to really high without going over the edge. In another words, bass and treble are well controlled with the Mk IV se.

Listening to piano, sax, acoustic string instuments is pure magic!

This amp is clean, quiet. no humming, hiss or static problems.

I enjoy the DT-990/600 / LDMk IV Se combo, maybe you would too. :)

The MKIV is a darned good amp for the money. I would say save up another $200 and get the WA3+. The Woo is a far better amp and gives even more power output to the headphones. It fully drives my T1's no problem.

I know the WA3 is great, but I'd have to pay huge import taxes as it is shipped from the USA. It's not about saving up, I personally just can't justify spending that much money on a headphone amp

I'm thinking Little Dot mk4, Darkvoice 3322 or the Jade. Just can't decide :frowning2:

You may like to consider the LD Mk III too... it is more affordable and you can always upgrade your sound by means of tube rolling.. Heard good things about this little baby. This baby is capable of great sound with Mullard tubes...

My girlfriend decided she couldn't afford an amp/DAC and was planning to sell the DT990/600s. I couldn't let her do that because I just love them way too much, so I bought them from her

My Decware CSP2+ is shipped and I'll be happily listening to my T1s + DT990/600 through that in a few days
