Bumping FS Threads
Jul 30, 2010 at 10:25 PM Post #2 of 14
Hmm I think one self bump every 24 hours should be allowed. Having your topic at the top of the list certainly does help it get views more so if it was on the second page.
But more than once in a 24 hour period should be frowned upon.

The rules of the For Sale Forum used to be plainly spelled out, especially the rule about not commenting on sales threads. I've seen a lot of that happening recently.

If they would make the search function better people wouldn't have to bump as often,  I search  for something like a T-Amp and the first result is 5 years old.  I try to use the "advanced" search and it searches the entire site.   THAT is why people bump....because if they didn't no one could find their ad.

I agree with most of these points. There should be a sticky with rules for the FS forums or something of that sort. I've seen newer members bump their own threads every hour or so, several discussions, and some flipping. I'm also in favor of a date sorted search function. When I try to gauge what the market is for the gear I'm trying to sell/buy I type in something like "FS <insert product name here>" but have to sift through pages of results before I find some relevant threads. It's not a big deal for me but it certainly would be nice.

The type of search you mention is not that hard to do:
  • Go to advanced search
  • Type in product name and select the radio button for "Title Only".
  • Scroll down to additional search options and select whichever For Sale sub-forum you are interested in, e.g Headphones or Amps or ...
  • You can then sort your results by date or whatever option you like by using the drop down lists towards the bottom of the page.
  • Click search and get relevant results

I hope that helps!

Ive seen some forums have a once a week bump only allowed. If you need it bumped sooner, its allowed if you lower your price. For some reason, I have sold stuff way faster on that site than this site where I can bump frequently. I dont mind frequent bumps if they are lowering there price everytime by 10-15 dollars each time. If they are so desperate to sell some thing quickly, it will help get there item at a price range where it can sell quickly rather than just cluttering up the new post with unnecessary bumps.

Yes please!
I am also quite sure we used to have a sticky thread with some general rules, and would like it to be restored.

Agreed. I thought I recall Jude mentioning updating the TOS with the forum rules shortly after the move to Huddler. Maybe my mind is playing games with me.

Really...does it need to be that complicated?   It was never that hard previously.  It's not that hard on any other site.    The first default should always be a chronological listing of title data only from the forum you are in.
