Er...
Ahem. This thread is approaching its 1-year anniversary. I don't think it appreciates being called back from the vestiges of the archives.

lol, we can check out and see if there is any bass improvement during the burn in process...

Hey guys, I recently bought a pair of 702s.  And while I do love them, every once in a while I really notice that lack of bass that they've got.

I had a pair of K44s and loved these, but wanted more.  The K702s were a great upgrade, but I didn't think the bass would be quite as lacking as it is and I don't have $500+ to drop on a good amp quite yet (I tried an e5 as a temporary solution, but it didn't help much).

Is there another pair of cans in the sub $250 that will produce a similarly large soundstage and accurate sound that has a bit more bass?

Save your money and buy an amp. The K702 shouldn't be lacking in bass. The bad bass you're having is probably because it's not being properly amped.

Why do people buy the 701 or 702 without knowing they lack sub-bass??? I seriously don't get it. They're very renowned for lack of bass, and people complain about small amount of bass. I thought people who would buy high-end cans(that's $200 right there) would do some simple research or reading.

They're going to be a little light on the bass from pretty much any amp.  That's just the way they are.  If you want more then you'll need to pick a different headphone or use some EQ.

So did anyone actually read my post?

I very clearly stated that I knew they were lacking in bass, but thought that it wouldn't be quite so much as it was(I'm not a bass head).

Also I asked if there was another pair of headphones that were similar to the k702s in response and soundstage but with a bit more bass.

So are there a pair of headphones out there as such?  I know of plenty high end headphones, but I'd like to get some similar to these, as I like everything else about them.

I can't really think of anything with a super wide soundstage like the 701s but with more bass.  Soundstage and bass tend to be opposites.  The Beyerdynamic DT990 or AKG K601 are the closest I can think of.  The DT990 has a lot more mid to upper bass and treble for a V shaped frequency response along with a large soundstage.  The K601s have deeper bass than the K701s as well as a little less treble.  I don't remember much about the soundstage on them though.

If you really love everything about them but the bass response then you should consider EQ or modding.  Headphones don't come in such fine gradations.

HD800? They are often touted as a K701 on steroids, a lot more expensive though.:D

Ahh yeah, I figured as much.

Thanks guys!  Now I've got something to look into!

Both are different sound signature wise. it's more the K701's soundstage is a toy vs. the HD800's soundstage.

I heard it through a at least $1000 amp. it was amped fine. It lacks sub-bass. It's a fact. it is sub bass recessed.

Here it is by itself vs the T1:

Notice how the angle of the line of the K701 is steeper than on the T1 60Hz and below (i.e. sub-bass!!)? That means there's less of that frequency vs. the other frequencies = 'recessed'!!!

I added the T1 as it's the most 'neutral' or 'balanced' sounding on a frequency response graph you can get (due to the pinna of the ear, a flatline IS NOT the most neutral sounding for headphones unlike speakers. The T1 measured frequency response is very close to what the ideal is for headphones is tbh.). I added the Grado RS2 for a 'bright' sounding headphone that focuses on treble as contrast

The K-702 have a deeper, and equal rounded sound stage compare to the HD-800, and yet both have a better sound stage compare to the DT-880 that sound like cheap hps that only have L-to-R sound stage and no depth at all.
