Hey people, how are you?

I need your advice here. My boss is looking to get a pair of cans that he could use for music and movies. His main concern was that they have a lot of bass. Naturally, my first thought was a pair for DT770 pro's. From what I've read, these seem to be the bass kings for movies and music. Although it may not be the best bass, it's certainly the MOST bass! The problem is that, I don't no if he's going to get all that these cans have to offer without some sort of headphone amp. I think he's planning on using the headphone jack on his receiver. Any suggestions on a innexpensive headphone amp that will bring out some of that killer bass the 770's have to offer?

When I heard it, the Musical Fidelity X-Can (V2) was a very good match indeed for the DT770, and shouldnt be too expensive. I have never heard the DT770 sound as good as they did out of that amp...

I'd agree with that. It just didnt seem to keep that bass very well under control for me, and was a bit un-musical. The nicest thing I could say about that combo, was that it played sound, to be honest.

The headroom little sounds dark to begin with and will overemphasize the already overemphasized lows on the DT770.

Cheers,

Any other suggestions? Would you guys recommend one of those headsave amps. I saw a couple under $200. Do you think these would work with the DT 770's?

If you get a headsave PIMETA, make sure you have it built with the OPA627 or 637, since Headsave Ultra I heard (which had the AD8610) sounded a bit on the thin side, with the tonal balance push toward the highs.

I have tried the DT770s with everything in my arsenal, and I find the MG Head (no negative feedback) gives the DT770s a very nice, balanced sound. The bass is all there, but it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the music, as these 'phones have a tendency to do with other amps. IMHO, of course.

The best synergy I've heard of on this board between the DT770s and an amp is with the MG Head. The OTL model will sometimes sell on this board for around $225.
