Ive used the ones that utilize a radio station, but I find most of them to be terrible performers.

Do I have any other options?

If not, can you recommend a good one that uses the radio?

Depending on your vehicle you can use a factory stereo OEM integration harness for your iPod, but why would you spend money on a harness to play a higher quality signal through your stock stereo?

Just get an aftermarket radio if you can, sorry if your car has one of those radios that's built into the air controls and the GPS.

That's what I use in my car, it just plugs into the USB port and it plays through the iPod dock while charging.

Beware: upgrading your factory stereo leads to buying aftermarket speakers to balance out your car's audio and it's a very easy way to empty your wallet!

Unfortunately no UBS or Aux-out on my stereo.

I hate to say it, but a new head unit is usually the best way. I've tried to get the iPod connected in a relative's car, but the FM transmitters are awful and so are the cassette adapters.

When I bought my car, I paid a little extra to have a factory radio installed that has an iPod jack in the armrest. It works fairly well, though the radio's controls are a little clunky. Sticking my my practice of spending almost nothing on car audio (I won't get into the full rant, but cars are awful places to listen to music and are frequently burgled) this suits me just fine.

These days, you ought to be able to find a head unit for $100 or so that allows a direct connection with controls or at least a 1/8" auxiliary input jack.

Then this is your perfect chance to buy one that does.
