I don't think you'll find them there. The only XB I have seen at BB (4 different locations) have been the XB500s. They definitely don't sound like the XB700. Walmarts have the XB300s on display...

Sokolov, I don't doubt that. I really wanted the D2000, but the fact that they leak made me go another way, which is how I ended up with the 770 pro 80s at that point as my basshead phone.

O really? Haha I know it says XB didnt check the model number. Darn. I was curious too.

I bought my XB700 off Amazon. Returned them after a few days because of the damn stitching on the pads irritating the hell out of the side of my head. I'd say it's an isolated incident, as i have very sensitive skin there. Other than that, the XB700s are heavenly  in comfort.

I'd get them off there, and if you don't like them, return them. I LOVED them, but had a good reason to return them.

Sony XB700 and Sennheiser HD 212 Pro, I'd say 212 Pro's might even have a little more bass despite it doesn't look like it. The bass seems to be focused around 50~70Hz vs the rather typical 90~110Hz for headphones. For me it's the closest to subwoofer like bass I've found in headphones with a little EQing, it's very deep and not very tight but that's how I like it too. I have tried Beyer DT770 Pro 80 ohm and Audio Technica M50 as well but those are nowhere close to the others I mentioned in bass quantity. Buying Skullcandy Skullcrushers or Beats by Dr Dre is a very bad idea, pick either HD 212 Pro or XB700 if you want max bass quantity with still good overall sound quality (for the price).

i'm trying to decide between the XB700 and the WS70 but I can't find much information on the WS70 at all. unfortunately i can't just buy both and sell the one i like less. unfortuantely it seems about impossible to get them in north america.

I downloaded a VST wrapper for Foobar and i've got NWEQ installed. I turned on Bass Boost 2 and now i'm getting some pretty ridiculous mega-low end. I found a mini to 1/4" adapter and was able to try them out from my Behringer UCA202 to old NAD stereo amp. The bass situation is much better, might get a FiiO or something.

If you do my mod, the WS70 with the Shure 840 pads you will enjoy it WAY MORE than the xb700

Stock pads version of the ws70 is just immensely powerful, the bass is too powerful for me.  Im a bass head, thats just too much and its ruining the great sound of the mids and highs behind it making the stage tiny as all hell.  The 840 pads on the ws70 make for a wider more enjoyable balanced experience with drastically less bass, but still a good amount.  Look for my review and mod thread on them

M Audio Studiophile Q40.No contest!!Best impact, extension, quantity and quality bass I've ever heard. And they don't overshadow other frequencies. They were made to sound like studio monitors.I've had the DT770/80ohms and the Q40s blew them away.Check the appreciation thread.

i currently own jvc marshmallows and ultrasone hfi-580's, both of which i love. however anyone that's used marshmallows knows how it's all bass, all the time. they're making my ultrasones sound anemic, and anyone who's used ultrasones knows there's plenty of bass. i need as much bass as a pair of headphones can possibly offer. what are the bassiest headphones you guys know of? i need at least marshmallow-level bass.

also i could probably benefit from an amp, but i played both of these through a millet hybrid and it didn't help the situation too much on either phone.

do you listen your music through your computer via winamp? you can try downloading the Enhancer plug-in from winamp.com, open up the plug-in and switch the preset to "I'm a Bass Freak :)" I've tried it through my Denon D5000's, and uhhhh...the amount of bass that goes through the music is enough to ripple the vocals.

edit: actually scratch that...I just tried out the Jammix Enhancer for winamp and the low end bass goes lower than the Enhancer plug-in.

Anyone comment on the extension of the ws70 vs the xb700?

The XB seams to still have huge quantities of bass at the 20-50hz unlike a lot of others, is this the same with the ws70's

Could you elaborate? if the WS70 has more bass impact than the xb and is still clearer overall then... WOW

Could also be amping these headphones too.

WS70 is 47 ohms, XB700 is 16, Denon is 25. Denons crave current like no tomorrow and the XB700 liked current quite a bit too. Not exactly a headphone I would ever consider building a system around, but a cheaper amp would do better with the WS70 than the XB700 from a technical standpoint for sure.

When I had the XB700, they sounded quite a bit better on my Concerto then from an iPod (as they should), especially with lower bass like 20-80 hz  (the real bass) really rumbled a lot better with proper amping. My concerto can get my D7000 or my XB700 when I had them to head rumbling points without having the volume too loud.

I doubt the WS70 are 2x as good as the XB700 as their prices would imply.

and just to be super clear, I am in no way bashing audio technica, I love that company just as much as I love sony. Sony stole my heart with the SA5K, and audio technica with the W1000X.

No Sony XB700 recommendations yet?

Nevermind, one right above me now!

I don't like the Sony XB700.  In side-by-side demos with the Dres, the Dres win hands down.  The Dres have better thump - and are cleaner, relative to the Sony XB700, which looks like it'll be the filet mignon of bassy headphones, but it's not.  It's pure junk.  And if the Dres can whip it's b@ss, it's not worth buying.  For high-quality bass-loving madness, it's beyerdynamic or Denon.  The DT770 is a legend - and it doesn't need batteries.  But don't rule out the Denons, either.
