is "prodo" chinese for prototype?
tongue.gif
seriously, those are some powerful statements you've made. you prefer them to the HP2s, HD800s, T1s, LCDs, R10s, K1000s, Jades, Orpheus, & JH-3a?!?!
i'd love to hear more about them - more details please!
atsmile.gif

When I said "prodo", it's because I coined the 2 model phrases "prototype model" or "proto" and "production model" or "prodo". Other's followed suit so I assumed that it was a pretty clear use of terms so that we could talk about the 2 models, while differentiating them.
I have stated that the HE-6's are in my top tier of choices of headphones in what has been offered over the years. I do prefer the "prodo 6's over the HP2's, HD800's, T-1's, LCD-2's, K1000's, Orpheus's (due to lack of bass, Orpheus is the best detailed headphone I've ever heard), and JH3a (because there is no 3a anymore. Anything that comes out, will be different than what we heard at Canjam, so they are not able to be compared to).
My JH-13's have the advantage of portability and are an in-ear, so I would use them for totally different applications.

The R-10's and the Jades are the only headphones in the group that you listed, that I would not say that I prefer the HE-6's to, yet. But it would take a long while before I can make that comparison, and they are no longer a headphone that is in current production.

Today we had one of the funnest meets ever and I was able to compare the LCD2 and the HE6 using a balanced β22 used in SE mode (so you can plug both headphones at the same time) and a modified Grace M902 as the source.

I know it's semantics, but the β22 and the Grace M902 are not really sources. They are in the chain, but where the music originates from (CDP, DAP, Music Server, etc.), would really be the "source" when talking about music electronics.

Any idea if the first 25 have been sold out? Just placed my order and am anxious to receive them. Have been hesitating to take the plunge with the LCD-2s due to issues with weight as well as how potentially dark the phones are as i'm coming from the HD800s.

These HE-6s seem like just the phones i need to make up for the lack of bass impact on the HD800s while still retaining the sparkly highs that i've grown to love.

dude I thought I'm reading my post :p

I wonder how many have been sold as well; my pair seem to be delayed in transit
frown.gif

Tracking on my pair has said "Shipment picked up", since Tuesday Nov. 9 with no progress since then; I ordered these the day they were released Thursday Nov. 4, nine days ago. I also replied within the hour when they requested my phone number on Saturday the 6th.

Now the story is, "I sent an urgent message to our shipping Manager in China to research your order and get back to me, As soon as I receive a response I will contact you immediately."

Express delivery indeed

What shipping company did you choose ?

Everytime I order from Head-Direct, I go for EMS since they don't charge for brokerage fee, but it always takes longer than UPS/DHL/TNT/FEDEX.

Nov 13, 2010 at 12:54 PM Post #800 of 21,868
Every time I have ordered from Head-Direct they make the choice of courier. The shipping was "DHL International Express" and it was free, as it is for everybody who orders the HE-6.

edit: evidently there are two DHL websites, the first one that said "Shipment picked up" is dhl.com, and the other one is dhl-usa.com, which only says, "Shipment Details Received". So I am now guessing that my headphones were never even dispatched, more than a week after they were ordered. When I called DHL they said they had conflicting information and that they would call me back.

So supposedly Head-Direct as well as DHL is now investigating this, lucky me

I think is the second one so far that has presented woodcrack. Please let this not continue the same path as the HE-5.

Were there issues with the HE5 and cracked wood?  If so how common was this?  Is the construction of the HE variants similar?

Well, I tried the HE-6 wi the Leben this morning, and it drives them effortlessly from the headphone Jack. I'm able to get 85dB peaks with ease, at only 11:00 on the volume control. And the combination also sounds excellent.

Of course I basically bought the Decware Mini-Torii to use with the HE-6, but I won't get to try that combination until Monday.

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't read the entire thread and this was the first time I've seen that terminology; can't say I'm thrilled with everyone shortening everything all the time as I think it actually takes something away from the language.

Those are strong praises you're singing. It will be interesting to see if these early impressions continue to hold up over the long haul.
It'll also be interesting to see if balancing does much for them. Is anyone running them off a HeadRoom amp (they make some fine devices that don't get enough attention on H-f)? Their top amps can sound really sweet with a variety of cans. Rob, please let us know what you think of them out of your more affordable and non-tube amps.

As far as the JH-3as go, from speaking with JHA they should finally be seeing the light of day in the not too distant future, and it sounds like sonically what was heard at canjam should be a pretty fair representation of the product, despite the changes. That seems as it should be if it was designed correctly both times. If we're lucky, perhaps we'll get to see for ourselves next week at the NY meet.

Will Fang be bringing the various HEs to the meet? I'd be surprised if he doesn't. I'm not sure if Audeze will be there but I think even if the manufacturer doesn't come that some folks will bring theirs along.
So folks, tune in next week in the meet impressions thread.

That's excellent news. I can't wait until my Leben arrives!

I have a feeling my new non-stat reference system will be Leben + HE-6.

I just got back from Fangs,Picked up my HE6s,.listening to Working Man out of my Imod/PRII combo.Out of the box they sound very good.fit and finish is excellant.
The PRII needs full volume to drive them ,same as the HE5LE (I listen at higher volumes then most, age & occupation causeing this) .
No distortion at all ,The one thing the PRII does well.None of my home amps are setup now,I will try them at a later time.
On another note while at Fangs I listened to the HM801 with a new prototype amp module made to drive the HE6s,& it drove them easily, with great sound to boot ,The Hm-801 is a killer portable source.I am tempted to pick one but my portable use is minamal.

"It'll also be interesting to see if balancing does much for them."

Running my HE-6 balanced with my 307A VS single ended did add an improvement in both detail and low end which was fairly significant.

Interesting, seeing that I also own the MK VI and was considering the HE-6 as second cans. What tubes are you rolling with?

Just ended a 6 hour dedicated listening session. All I can say after that is... HE-6 = good.

Generic West German 6A7SG and stock 6H9C. Not much of a tube roller.

They have probably been sold out, but there is more stock coming in about a week.

You won't be disappointed with the HE-6 coming from the HD800. As I said before the HE-6 is what I expected the HD800 to be. The HD800 is far too laidback, even more so than the HD600/650. When I auditioned the 800s, they weren't engaging at all. If you have listened to a HD600 and liked it, you will love the HE-6.

Can you describe laid back by your definition, because this sentiment is the first I've heard when comparing these headphones..........I own all three, but I don't think the HD800 is as laid back as the other two.
