HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

I will certainly have to check my pair against another pair, but can't deny what I hear. The B22 should be able to handle the HE6 pretty well.

I agree that the soundstage is wider, but wonder how the bass could be deeper on the HE6. LCD bass is flat beyond human hearing.

I would love for the HE6 to beat my LCD2, as I find the HE6 so comfortable.

It will definitely be interesting to see whether your pair is defective, Duckman. In the LCD-2 impressions thread I remember one user reporting similarly bad results really not in keeping with the generally positive responses. He asked for a replacement from Audez'e, and when he tried a second LCD-2 sure enough there had been something wrong with his first pair. If Fang still has the quantity in stock, you might want to share your issues and ask him for a replacement.

I definitely agree that if the Concerto handles the HE-6 as well as I'm hearing, the B22 should in theory do an even better job.

My girlfriend surprised me with an HE-6. Great impressions thus far. Like DannyB I am running them with a 307a. Duckman the Lcd2 has a bit of a warmer signature and more low bass. I'm not sure if this was your impression because I haven't read the whole way thru. I haven't compared them side by side but it's obvious the HE6 is a grand headphone. The soundstage is smaller than the LCD2. It's hard to say which is better. Being that the audeze is easier to drive I would say it will be a no brainer for some. The HE6 is more comfortable and I think nicer looking by a small margin. The signature on the HE6 feels more suited to classical music than the LCD2 which is in some ways great and in some ways ashame because of its smaller soundstage.

I prefer the appearance of the LCD-2.

It certainly is a lovely headphone. It smells nice too, thanks to the wood used. However the HE-6 is way more comfortable to wear for me.

I like the "steampunk" look of the LCD-2 but its heavy weight and mixed reports regarding comfort are the reasons why I have ruled it out of consideration (although I'd still like to audition it). The HE-6 appears to have a clear advantage over it in this area.

Just means more time for a good 507 vs HE6 comparison.

I'd welcome that comparison too.

same thoughts here+cracked wood is a big turn off for me

Just to clarify, my LCD-2 doesn't have cracked wood. The blocks labeled "L" and "R" which hold the adjustable metal rods are cracked. They're made out of a material that seems like a plastic of some sort. Not sure if anyone has had any problems with the wood, but there have definitely been more than two people with the cracked blocks.

I feel that the adjustment system for the HE-6 works much better than the LCD-2 personally.

I've finally managed to get a little time with the HE-6 on my head, after they arrived last night.  From what I hear so far, they sound maybe even a little better than I remember the prototypes sounding, although without the ability to compare it's hard to say for sure.  What is for sure is they sound great.

Eventually I will compare to the LCD-2, although this will take some time.

This is a case of most head fiers don´t have a flat hearing down to 20 hertz I believe. Get an equalizer if you have problem getting sub bass of your HE6 or LCD-2 and miss it.

Today we had one of the funnest meets ever and I was able to compare the LCD2 and the HE6 using a balanced β22 used in SE mode (so you can plug both headphones at the same time) and a modified Grace M902 as the source. Unfortunately I'm too tired to write now because of the exhaustive meet in the afternoon and a surprise birthday party for my mom in the evening so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Just one thing for sure, these two headphones are definitely in the same level and each excels in different areas as you will see.

Any idea if the first 25 have been sold out? Just placed my order and am anxious to receive them. Have been hesitating to take the plunge with the LCD-2s due to issues with weight as well as how potentially dark the phones are as i'm coming from the HD800s.

These HE-6s seem like just the phones i need to make up for the lack of bass impact on the HD800s while still retaining the sparkly highs that i've grown to love.
