@ drez
Thanks! Does LCD and HE headphones use the same fitting mechanism and size, or do you have to adapt, cut or do anything to make the Audeze pads fit on HiFiMan headphones?

LCD-2 pads need very little trimming (maybe 2mm of about 15mm) from the ring of pleather used to hold it in place, this should still allow it to be used with the LCD-2 at a later stage.  LCD-2 pads also come with a plastic ring which can be double-sided taped to one of the Hifiman plastic baseplates in order to make Hifiman baseplate support the LCD-2 pads better.  Took me about 15 mins I think and the LCD-2 pads should still be usable on an LCD-2 later or if you decide to sell the pads.  Only downside is how it looks or whether you like the sound of the Audez'e pads more or less than the stock pads.

To reiterate, the Audez'e leather have better bass response but less open sound than the stock velour (less soundstage width and layering), while the Audez'e vegan pads have better soundstage size and center image, less recessed midrange than stock velour (similar to leather but more open and detailed), amount of bass/warm same or slightly less than the stock velour pads.

I could cry right now. Watched some stuff on my computer yesterday with my HE-6 on and minding my own business. Placed the cans on the table and got out for a glass of water in the kitchen. Went back and when I wanted to put HE-6 on again, they just broke. The screws popped out of the round plastic holders. Not cool HiFiMan, only had them 6 weeks and I have treated them like a new born baby. The cans  haven´t even left the room and the headband size has not been changed more than one time. Waiting on what the dealer says, but should I glue them with some strong glue ? I can see that this design has a weak point there. 2 pieces of plastic together where a lot people pull and push. Now it´s Easter I will open my window and shout like Jesus : My God HE-6, My God He-6, why have you forsaken my

Hi Larry. Sorry to learn this - and it's all my fault ... I should never have bragged about this headphone to you ... Unfortunately there has been at least one more in this thread with the same problem as you.

On a more serious line this is of course on warranty - and good luck that you bought it from a local dealer, or am I mistaken?

Breathe my friend...

HiFiMAN's customer service (from my experience) is excellent with regards to replacements. Email them, they'll ask for your Paypal (or other) invoice and you'll be asked to send your pair in. I got mine 4 days after they received my defective pair. The problem was minor to be honest, and they could have easily fixed it, but instead chose to send me a new one.

X2 On the customer service.
I have had problems with both my HE-5LE's and HE-6's and in both cases I received a brand new pair with all accesories. They are quick and dillegent, irrespective of the fact that they are a small Chinese company. In fact this is some of the best customer service I have had, period.

If we could take a step back - how did you remove the pads from the HE6 rings that you use later to attach the Audeze pads ?

I've also had very good luck with Hifiman's customer service.  When I received my HE-6 and HE-Adapter (ordered brand-new from Head-Direct.com), both cases were damaged.  At first they wanted me to pay to return the cases to them, but quickly relented and sent me two new cases free of charge...and I kept the original, damaged ones!  On top of that, I asked how to purchase a new headband (including gimbals), and they sent me a brand new one free of charge!

It's stuff like this that'll keep me coming back to Head-Direct...although after spending $1300, good customer service is reasonable to expect.

To Larryonfire -- you might want to call Mrs. T and simply ask for a replacement headband.  You might get your HE-6s up and running much more quickly.  And if you need the screws to hold the cups to the gimbals, let me know and I can look up the screw size for you.  I just happened to have a box of the exact same size screws lying around (pure luck) and was able to replace the original, rounded-out screws that my headphones came with.

You need a par of the newer Hifiman pads as the older ones won't work for this.  The newer pads can simply be pulled off the black plastic rings which attack them to the headphone (which I have also referred to as baseplates) as they are held on by a flexible overlapping ring of pleather.  Again this will not work with the older pads with clear bases as they are glued down.  If the base is black plastic you are good to go - it should not take too much force to remove the pads, and it is pretty easy to get the back on.  If you don't have a spare pair of newer earpads they can be ordered from Hifiman for $20 plus postage (postage wast $10 for me).  I went nuts and ordered 3 sets of newer pads to make comparisons easier (esp as attaching the older pads is a massive chore); I would recommend at least ordering one pair per set of other pads you are trying to make it easier to decide which pad you prefer, or even a spare pair of your current favourite Hifiman pad if it does not one of the newer models as re-attaching the older earpads was almost impossible.

Sorry if I am not making sense, I just woke up

I agree, their customer service wasn't always this good, but recently I've seen a very positive trend. Now I buy from Head-Direct worry-free, especially because of the 30-day return full-refund policy.
I wish Audez'e and other companies did the same...I would honestly buy a lot more from them.

This is true, their customer service is top notch, even if their headphone are a bit flimsy in places.

Same here. Can't complain after they replaced my HE-6. I must say the Hifiman/Head Direct as a company is very accommodating and that makes up for the minor slip ups.

Larryonfire, that's a bummer with your HE-6. My pair failed in the same place, Hifiman ought to reinforce that assembly. However, I agree with the others that their customer service is very good.
