Speaker amps but beware the noise floor, high gain and gain structure in your setup. It's a delicate balance.

Over here, noise floor not fine, therefore, 100 and 10 ohm resistors being used... Not that it colors or degrades the sound in anyway.

I know you'll get it resolved eventually. With the recent warm weather we've been having around SoCal, I'm starting to look at small music/food festivals to hang out at.

On the HiFiMAN front, I outta be ashamed of myself! I waited forever to get hard wired, and no sooner than they showed up completed, life got in the way - tax research; job hunting; auto repairs ect. Despite receiving them over a week ago, I may only have some 30-60 minutes on the cans.

Sunday, I hope to hop-to-it and start gettin' some hours on those cans. The job Robert (Aphrodite Cu29) did on them was clean, neat & tidy!

Life always seems to get in the way just as we get expensive toys to play with...

Guys, I hear somebody cooking in the background while Eva is playing.  Kidding, but there is something going on with rattling sound, somebody messing with some objects remotely(like dishes rattling or something, that's why I said cooking
biggrin.gif
).  Like I said, it's hard to imagine more details with HD800.

This sound is something that cannot be picked up unless the phones are revealing. Previous headphones I've own, never had such nuances being picked up.

You guys think I'm going overboad with thinking these might be better than 009?  I think it has the details and realism.  I think I may have the perfect synergy, possibly it can compete with 009.

I got few request for open grill and as promised I did work on them today.

Just thought of post pic as I work on them

1. Cut an cardboard using stock grills for measurement

2. Got these mesh file holder from wallmart, I like the finish, black color and strength of grills on these.

I found these for $7 in local Walmart (one I have and in the link looks same, however I am not sure)

3. Used scissors from office depot

4.Start cutting from edge

5.Cut a smaller piece of mesh, it will help when cutting round shape

6.Then cut the round shape, trust me cutting mesh using scissors is as easy of cutting an cardboard

7.Check it on HP, I used HE-400 for this purpose (atleast I am using it right?
wink_face.gif
). I just used scissors to trim the edges a bit.

Note:- HP must stay away from work area, otherwise strong magnet on HP will suck small piece of mess laying around and you do not want that to happen

8. That’s it, I cut more than 8 of them in less than 60 mins. Now heading out to post office for shipping them

Can you guys tell me what earpads you guys are using and if the earpads make a difference on the sound?  I am using the leather like material pads.  Does the soft pads change the signature a bit?  The other HE-6 I was referring to has soft pads, and was wondering if that is affecting the sound.

I used to listen to pleather pads with the 6s. Couldn't stand velours for a second (too distant sound)! Now I'm using Brainwavz HM5 and I 'm happier than ever. These pads were nade to perfectly match HE-6 in all apsects..

So the pads do have affect on the sound, I thought the other HE-6 has distant sound also, and it has the soft pads.  I wonder why that is, it doesn't make sense pads would change the sound that much.

All the good characteristics of the pleather (deep bass, rich and close-up sound) plus a larger dimensional sound to boot. Also, the fit of Brainwavz on the phones is really perfect, without the loose, "for-ever" rotation of the original HFM pads.
Not sure if it's seen in the photo below:
