Noise Issues with Ipad hooked up to portable amp

Guys, I need help! I hooked up my SR-71 to my iPad and to my disappointment it hasn't been a good experience. I receive a lot of background noise at high volumes. My headphones are Edition 8's and 990t. The 990t sounded the worst out of the two. By the way this only happens when watching iTune purchased movies. I have tried all impedance settings on amp. Please help. :)

any feedback guys?

so your music sounds fine with it?

what format is your music? (bitrate, is it lossless?)

you may need to get a LOD if that even works with the iPad i don't know.

i am currently using an LOD from ALO. The movies are downloaded straight from itunes store.  My music is fine,

turn off wifi and 3g and see if it works.

You need to get a shielded LOD, like this one from Whiplash.  I have the iMod version of this cable and unlike the ALO Cryo LOD, there is no RC interference whatsoever with this cable.  I actually put an iPhone 3GS on top of it to verify this, and nothing.

Feel free to confirm with Craig before purchasing, of course.

Hi I've been experiencing the same symptom. I also get a background hiss at a moderately higher volumes in the background. I'm using the ipad wifi model, shielded lod from whiplash, and the protector or Sr71a from RSA. I usually use JH13s or 16s with that combo. Regadless of turning off the wifi or not the hiss won't dissapear. I use alac for my music.

Btw, I don't get much of a background noise out of the headphone jack of the ipad lol.
Looks like I'll be using it straight out of the jack than lod. ...

Can you try with higher volume setting on ipad and lower volume on the amp? I guess that lowers the noise level.

The volume of the ipad becomes unusable when using the amp.  Any ideas anyone?  I would love to watch movies using my amp but the noise makes it impossible.

So Tiltman, you only have problems while watching movies only? Nothing wrong with music?
Mine just hisses with anything out of dock.
Are any of ipad users experiencing the same symptoms as me? If not I might return my ipad..Or exchange

I don't know ipad's design, but this sounds like it's using some current output type driver, which doesn't like to see high impedance loads. As a simple experiment, use a splitter and connect a pair of headphones in parallel with the amp input, so ipad sees some lower impedance loads. If you gain the volume control back, it means my hypothesis is correct, and it's easy to fix the problem.

i'm experienced the same hiss noise from my ipad 3G 64gb version. Using DIY LOD cable + RSA Mustang P-51.. the very same cable and amp working fine in my iphone 3gs, iphone 4, ipod touch 4th gen, ipod nano, ipod classic 160gb..So i'm sure there is a porblem with iPad LOD.. : P
