Best headphones?

I hope it's ok to start to start a new topic during this thread.

But what's a good headphone that's under 200, fits around the ear like a cup, isn't noise cancelling but has a good full sound and isn't too large so I can carry it around and use it easily in public?

I've tried looking for myself but've become overwhelmed with all the products.

Umm, okay so you don't want isolation but you want around the ear and portable? Hate to break it to you, but you have to pick two of them. Only open headphones provide NO isolation, but I don't really see why you don't want that, because it's either that or people hear your music since you plan on using these portably. There are a good amount of circumaural portable headphones though. Like the Denon D1000, JVC M750, M-Audio Q40, Phiaton M400, and others in http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/433318/shootout-35-portable-headphones-compared-panasonic-rp-htx7-philips-shp5400-added-05-02-10

Unless I'm misinterpreting this and you actually mean noise cancellation technology. And you probably should have just made another thread. I remember reading this thread a while ago so people might just assume the OP has more questions and not bother opening this up.

Sorry.

If I really need an amp, I'll probably be using a Fiio E5, or something comparable in size. Source right now is laptop and Creative M and I listen to anything from post-rock, to hiphop and rock.

And I mean non-canceling. I like an open sound. And with around the ear, i just don't want the ear piece to sit flat against my ears. There are no open cans that have that kind of design?

There are, but do you really want to bother other people with your music when you're out and about? Closed tends to be better portably.

@OP: I highly recommend the Sennheiser HD25-1-II. Great passive noise attenuation and a snug fit. Just make sure you get the velour pads for optimum comfort. If you want the best sound quality AND isolation then in ear monitors are the best choice. Decent brands will not be uncomfortable. Etymotic and Ultimate Ears do some good models, Etymotic's ER4Ps are quite popular.

Ignorance is also assuming other people have no idea what they are talking about other than yourself...

My friend has a Bose surround system, I forget the name.. it cost over a grand... my 400$ Sony surround sound kicks the poop out of it. Other friend had bose headphones that cost 200$... My SCL3 shures that cost me 79.99 at the time were better...

I don't remember the models, but it is useless information... all I need to know is that they are bad, and not worth my time or money.

Yeah if Bose ever did design something worth the money they charged it would be great. But until then it's pretty safe bet to stay the hell away from them.

Playing the "flipside" card all the time is ignorance at its finest because you use statistically weak information to "disprove" statistically proven info. Feeling strongly about something doesn't change its nature, just your perception. 1, or few good products does not rid a company of a very long history of utter crap.

I had to LOL at this "response"... You just made yourself sound really stupid. Sorry for calling it ignorance before, good catch there. Not only did you improperly define ignorance but you failed to notice that the "flipside" was not intended to "disprove" anything, but rather to show how obviously ignorant you were to the whole process of "rational/logical thought" (Google it if you are still confused). I didn't use any statistics to prove any point and I did not express any "feeling" about one thing or another. Are you sure you read my forum post in English? Again, Google can translate the page if you select that option.

I have no opinion on any particular brand manufacturer, and hence am unbiased when I conduct evaluations. My position is that others follow the same process to achieve truly accurate and meaningful results. You can do whatever you want, and spew your hatred of all things BOSE anywhere you choose, just don't expect people to agree when it is done ignorantly... I'm sorry, I meant: Stupidly.

Wow. Chill.

He wants around the ear. They are supraaural, at least when I tried them. But the velour pads were pretty comfy. Maybe I have huge ears. And ER4s don't have a full (I'm going to assume warm and enveloping) sound. More of the opposite, but still very good in their own right.

Not sure if they could be considered good-looking but the HD25-1 isolate quite well for everyday use and are quite portable, at least in the sense that you can just throw them in a bag and forget about them. As far as portables go they are pretty comfortable with the velour pads.

I would recommend the sennheiser HD 25-1 II's had them for a while, really nice portable headphones.

Fair enough, tbh I think the OP should try some headphones rather than read about them...

@TotallyDubbed: I find the isolation on the XB700s to be not as good as the HD25s with surprisingly less bass clarity as well! (I have both 'phones)

@OP
I understand how you come from a BOSE family and how their ads have come to you, but just stop mentioning BOSE.

As for my reccomendations to the OP: Denon headphones (any), Sennheiser HD-25-II, Phiaton MS400, Custom IEM
These all have glowing positive reviews for them.

Just bought dre beat studios. Man these headphones are crazy. And this is coming from someone who used Bose all their life.

They're good, fairly smooth sound that will appeal to masses. It does have a bit of a boost in the treble that makes voices sometimes too sibilant but other that for the music that it was designed for ( hip hop and r&b ) it's good. But, remember, they're lots of better headphones out there.

Hi. You probably shouldn't have found this place. You'll spend way more than you have ever thought when you look around the forums. You have been warned. :D

You will probably find many opinions degrading the Beats. They, for the most part are correct (Yes, I have used them OUTSIDE the kiosks), but don't let that fool you into thinking they are crap. Far from it. Overpriced? Yes, but most audio goods are. Bose is also overpriced, moreso than the Beats.
