Simple: stop listen to pop

Just kidding! You could buy a second pair of headphones.
K702s and rock is a no no, K240DF I think even worse cause they're lacking in bass punch.

Not that I disagree with you, but you stated this like it's a fact, or at the very least a consensus opinion, when in fact I'd say a majority of people on here would disagree that they're better at all than HD600's, let alone much better.

The general consensus is that they're different, not better or worse.

No, they are better in alot of respects, it's just that alot can't drive them optimally, that IS the difference.LOL.

i also could say the hd800 is just different then the hd650, but that is not the case.

And yes, i did own the 600's as well.

This again is just your opinion. A lot of people have compared both on very high quality amps(se and balanced) and preferred the 580/600s. You shouldn't state your opinion as fact. Some like the 650s better and some do not. Everytime I post about how something sounds I always state IMO. Why? Because it's just that; my opinion. I have even read comments of people liking the 600s better than the 800s. I don't agree, but it's their opinion. And also, there are some who say grado should have stopped at the sr60. So headphones are all a matter of taste. Everybody ears are different, and what your ears tell you, don't speak for everyone's ears.

I've heard the 580 and the 650 only. Something I can say about the 580: has a very interesting sound stage. The mids are so recessed that it seems like they are 10 feet away in front of you. Compared to the 650 where the music is right around you.

I heard that the HD600 has the same soundstage as the 650, meaning the HD580 actually has an "advantage" in the soundstage if you are looking for something that throws the sound back. This works pretty well for classical, actually. However I find the 580's soundstage per se isn't as spacious as the 650's.

that's interesting...I am looking for something that'll reproduce the sound of a concert hall (if the recording was made in one, I mean). I love my Grados, but the sound is almost on top of me, it feels like I'm sitting right next to the conductor.

and I found the 600s already have enough bass for my taste, that's why I didn't even bother to audition the 650s.

I listen mostly to orchestral, BTW.

Looks like I'll prob pull the trigger on some 580s, if they're that similar. Unless any more K701 advocates try to convince me. I really REALLY tried to like them. The frequency response was sweet and perfect, the soundstage was airy and natural, instruments felt placed 'just right'. But there was no weight at all...it felt like just an analytic recording, not a group of people playing in real space like the Senns.
