So I hope i'll be able to buy one of those soon... (maybe used one?)
But now I don't know what's better from those you recommended.

Btw, expensive amp like this can give the K701 sound that similar\closer to expensive phones like HD800\GS1000? (I wanna see if the investment worth it)

The GS1/SPL Auditor is much more versatile then the GP.. The SPL auditor has has balanced outs.. There was a used Auditor for 700 a while back.. I would have gote it but just bought the GP amp.. Was pretty pissed, as the Auditor is the amp I really want for under a grand..

Am looking at getting the K701s.. newbie question here but what is the difference between the white and the tan strap version.

I know the 702 allows you to change cords but there is a 20-30 dollar difference on Amazon for the white and tan strap 701. Is it just the colour?

No.

If you want to use a (now dated) analogy, think about the amplifier in the same context as developing a photo.

If you have a great exposure and you develop it well, you'll have a great photo. But if you take a bad exposure and develop it well you still have a bad photo.

An amp will bring out the best or worst in a headphone, but it won't make the headphone into something that it isn't.

If what you really want is a HD-800 or a GS-1000, buy them. The K-701 sounds like neither, no matter what you plug them into.

Burson HA160, known to bring the K70x to life! Between the SPL auditor and the Burson, which one has better synergy with the akg?? I am eager to know!

All we can say is that the auditor, Burson and Ultra Desktop all synergise well with the AKG's. Which does it better is likely up to the listener with their being no clear winner that all will agree with.

It's amazing. You haven't even heard the 701 or 702 with either of the SPL amps or the GP and you've already developed an illusion that you truly believe in. Your analogy is entertaining, but not accurate. On high resolution amps, like the SPL or maybe even on the GP, the sharp highs of the 800s is piercingly sharp. Maybe at this point people get confused between resolution and excessive treble. The highs are much more natural sounding with the 702s on the SPL than the 800s. But if you're using a tube, the highs can have a better rolloff and be much more relaxed.

One thing I do agree with you on is the OP needs more time and experience with his headphones before he moves on.

I ain't buying it. I'm with Uncle Erik on this one. The HD800 highs are far from sharp in any way, while the K70x can be piercing with some recordings. Sometimes I wonder if you're secretly an AKG employee.

Actually, I had replaced the stiff foam discs with some softer ones and it took some of the "honk" away..

Oh ok because when I took out the foam discs, I got more bass and even more piercing highs.... I'll look into different foam discs as I hadn't thought of that.

Uncle Erik, I didn't expect the K701's sound signature sounds like HD800 in any way, those are different phones.

I meant, if by expensive amp like this, I can get my K701's sound performance sounds like expensive phones like HD800- in "performance"- I mean to detailing, soundstage, transparent, very analytical sound, etc.
