iRiver iGP-100 1.5GB Flash memory player

Well I love the way it looks but the specs about battery life are unusual. Seems like a flash based player, even one with 1.5GB of memory, should be able to offer better battery life than this.

Anyone else have opinions? I just posted a message here about battery life in portables talking about just this very issue:

Battery life on portable audio devices

But that price... oh man, $249 retail. I think I'm gonna get one just because of that. With the Rio Nitrus weighing in at $299 retail that $50 difference goes towards a decent pair oh earphones/headphones.

EDIT: As usual they offer no real information on the website about this device (it is brand new, by the way) but it's funny that they have it listed underneath "Hard Drive players" as the iGP-100 and under Product Support as the iGP-120. For a minute I thought there were two new ones - turns out it's just a minor glitch on the website.

Audio
No. of Channels
Frequency Range
Headphone output
Frequency Characteristics
S/N Ratio STEREO (L+R)
20Hz ~ 20KHz
20mW(L) + 20mW(R) : 16 ohm at Max. Volume
+/- 2dB (Lineout)

90dB(L), 90dB(R) - MP3

Ya see, that's a 1/6th of the battery right there. 20mW * 12 hours (running half output) would be 240mWH.

Yeah, just noticed that. Another thing I just found interesting. It's not a flash player.

My mistake. That must be the culprit. Wow... didn't think I missed that tidbit but I did. Stupid me. And so is the Rio Nitrus. Well hells bells how did I miss that.

The Nitrus has the most battery life of this class device I think. I read they supposedly did a firmware optimization which increased battery life so it's somewhere around 19 or so now. It's a funny little device as the battery indicator blinks as if it's empty but it goes on for like hours more or something. I havn't actually attempted to test the battery life. I guess I should but I can't wait that long.

Yeah with those deals Nitrus is like $200 now.

Audio specs is similar to iHP, probably iHP with Cornice hard drive. It will kick Nitrus as$ if it uses the same audio processor of iHP series. I already ordered 1, it should arrive here by Tuesday.

nitrus $200 after $20 rebate from ecost, compuplus, etc

muvo2 $196 no rebates at buy.com

both cheaper and lighter than the iGP

however iGP has better screen...

the IGP has better sound than the Nitrus at least to my ears. I was comparing them both and with my songs and my phones the IGP won the sound contest. More open sounding. I like the menus a bit better too

I cant decide if I like the way it looks or not. If you can see it you have to look at it. The nitrus is more low key looking (yes I know not a valid reason to buy or not buy)

BTW: The FM radio in it is mediocre at best so dont buy it for that.

But I am please overall

The sound is good but the sensitivity is very poor. I live in the country and can at best pickup two stations.

For comparison, I also have a RIO Sport and it can get 9 stations. Of course they sound like AM.....

Oh well can't have everything. I am getting good battery life from it. I use in on average about three to four hours a day and have only recharged once in a week of owning it. Even then the battery indicator was at about 40%

I like it

changed to use....... Man I need to learn to type

Can someone please explain this one to me? Mac Compatibility of iRiver products:
iFP series: Fully compatible with Mac OS 9.2.2 and 10.2
iGP: Fully compatible with Mac OS 9.2.2 and 10.2
iHP: Seen as hard drive in Mac OS 10.2 with no DB support (no searching (I assume sorting?) by song name/artist/album).

Hey I got many question for you sno1man.
1 Does it have SRS WOW?
2 Does it have DB or just file tree?
3 If you turn it off and plug the adapter in, how does it show its charging? Does it have a yellow light just like the iHP that indicates that the battery is charging?
4 Does it read txt file?
5 Does it show up as a removable hard drive?
6 How do you reset iGP?
7 Does it come with line in/out jack that was posted on iRiver America eStore but not on iRiver America iGP-100 product page (does it have line in recording feature)?
Can you post the manual (its probably on the CD or does it come with intallation CD cuz there wasnt installation CD posted on iRiver America)? Can you post some pic?

12 hrs isnt that bad considering iPod has only 8 hrs.
