Hey y'all,
I considering purchasing a ifp-595t when it comes out or a ifp-599t. I was also considering the ifp-395t as it is out already.
Here are some advantages and disadvantages of the 595 over the 395.

Advantages:
-Mic in, optical out
-magnesium casing instead of the plastic casing that so many people are complaining about
-fantastic case
Disadvantages:
-built-in battery instead of AA
-more expensive
-not out yet!

The whole battery issue is a big deal to me as I am away from electricity for large amounts of time. The case of the 595 is easily removed to get at the battery, but who knows if the battery is widely available. I'm hoping a few AA batteries can be strung together to make a battery pack to charge 595.
Any thoughts?

Holy crapz0re!!! That iHP-500 series is beautiful.

That's the downside to all this portable business. As soon as you make a decision to purchase something with your hard earned cash, hardly any times passes at all and then WHAM something even better comes along.

Tough to keep up sometimes but it's fun to see the new stuff regardless.

I for one am now very interested in this one as I haven't made a purchase of a portable just yet.

Now the waiting begins...

I decided to forgo the wait and get the ifp-395 from iriver.com .
The only advantage I saw from the 595 was the nice casing and the optical in/out, but I probably would never use that feature. I also think the 395 is durable enough for my purposes considering I rarely drop my electronic devices.
The use of AA batteries over built-in lithium ion was a huge factor in my decision. Considering that there are chargers out there for cheap that can recharge a 2100 mah NiMH battery in 15 minutes, and that AA batteries are common, I see no advantage to the built-in lithium other than shape of the player.
Also, it cheeses me off that the ifp-500 series is still USB 1.1 (or USB 2.0 non-full-speed or whatever marketing bullsh!t that they've renamed USB 1.1 to). The battery life hasn't increased tremendously to warrant the use of lithium ion (which is the reason why hard drive players use them instead of AAs), and they haven't even made it replaceable.
Considering that I've too much invested in mp3 (lotsa gb of mp3), I could care less about ogg or wma support.

That being said, if iriver made the ifp-595t available in the USA tomorrow, I would kick myself.

hmm how much is the 395t? I'm considering getting the 390t for running as well as just general listening, as my limit is around 200 bucks. Any idea at all on when the 5xx series is coming out? Also can someone recommend me good earphones for running that are less than 50 dollars?

its usb1.1, which is totally unreasonable for anything over 256mb. it takes 1/2 hour just to fill 256mb iFP-390T.

everything else looks great, but usb1.1 kills it. it's outdated before you can even buy it. sad news coming from iRvier.

there are several cheap USB2.0 pen drives now, so I know it can't be that hard or expensive to implement.

well that's not that big of deal to me. i can handle 1/2 hour uploads to the player, especially since after i put my initial music on there, i wont change that much at a time. Also, the ifp-595 is usb 1.1 as well... so would you recommend waiting or going for the 390t? Likely if i wait, the ifp-5xx will be out of my price range anyway, and i need a player for running, so i'm seriously considering picking up the ifp-390t.

The IFP-39* series has a flawed design in my opinion. It can't accept headphones that have wide areas where the jack protrudes from like those on Grados or certain other phones. This is because of the area that surrounds the jack input being elevated in order to look *cool*. (If you have one, you know what i mean.) The fat area of the plug head would keep the jack from entering completely. There might be a way around this, but it should allow all headphones in stock, unmodded, and without attachments. Etys fit though due to their small plug head. Sound quality is great. I have an IFP 190T which has a flat surface, allowing any phone I've tried to go in. My cuz has the 390t and Etys.

I tried it with my Ms1s and the jack couldn't go all the way in because of the plastic on the plug head.(The black part where the jack is connected to) I *assume* other grado jacks are similar. The ETYS barely made the cut.
