Hey All

I realize that I just missed the August 2003 meet by a few months, but since these things take some effort to put together, I figured that there was no harm in starting right away.

I've been to two meets, loved them both. However, that was with the Nor. Cal constituency, so now its time to meet the LA/so Cal headfiers.

Unfortuately I can't volunteer my own place, too little space. But I would love to help, however I can, in putting together another meet.

Share your thoughts, and maybe we can get another one going!

thanks!

Well, myself and a couple of other members, Jasper994 and psxguy85, are probably going to get together this weekend, at my apartment here at 'SC. psxguy is also and SC student, and this was more of an informal mini-meet kind of a thing, since I don't have much of a place here either. But just based on the three of us, I'd say there's some definite interest, but not that much in terms of resources. The line-up for our micro-meet (tenative):

CD3000
SR325
DT770
HD590
HD280
PX200/100
Corda HA-1
Mensa DI/O (if I get it in time)
Archos FM Recorder
iPod

Sure, it not the most incredible stuff in the world, but it should be a doggone good time nonetheless.

We should try to get a meet at a dealer somewhere or a different house. I don't think all of the burden should be on orpheus to host these things.

I agree Tim. I have no idea where we could host it, since I just moved back down to So Cal and am trying to relearn where everything is (I've been in the Bay for 7 yrs)

hope we can pull something together

thanks!

Well, I sure as hell am not going to get a hold of businesses in LA to get things rolling, so one of you guys are going to need to get to work,

. The drive there and back is more than enough work for me to put up with. Been in a rut lately, so i'm not sure if i will be up for the drive, but I'll see what I can do.

Another meet would probably be fun, more just to meet the members... Although I'm eyeing Tim's sr200s, I think I've heard most of the headphone equipment I wanted to. Mostly just source searching.

well, i don't know of many audiophile stores around this area. all the ones i've been to are quite small, hardly big enough to hold a decent meeting. never been to upscale audio, though it's probably pretty big. however, that kevin is suck a stuck up prick (tried to buy some tubes from him a couple times,) i doubt anyone here would like to listen to his big head for the whole meet. i also doubt many audiophile stores would be willing to hold a meeting for headphone lovers, since they're not exactly as grand as some lame $30,000 made of gold coned super speakers.

but that's just what i think.

is there something specific you want to hear nanahachi? i think we've basically had a chance to listen to everything besides the stax and orpheus units. headphone-wise anyway.

Upscale Audio just barely survived the SoCal firestorm. But it would be too small anyway, as it is mainly Kevin's combination house/shop.

However, Manley Labs, and I think VTL are both located in Chino, about 30 miles east of downtown LA. However, neither of them are big headphone equipment companies.

Alternatively, we could rent a large meeting room in a hotel. I don't know what it would cost, but I suppose we could find out.

Orpheus -

Upscale has at least one warehouse located offsite, as Kevin could not possibly keep his entire inventory at his main place in Upland.

I've meant to attend both of your meets, but I unfortunately have frequent health issues, and those have precluded me from attending. (I keep telling Carlo I'm going, but I always seem to cr*p out at the last minute.)

The only reason for the hotel suggestion is that it isn't really fair for us to keep imposing on your hospitality.

There are several other high end stores in the area, but (AFAIK) as has been said, they're all too small or snobbish to deal with the likes of our unwashed masses.

Fellas!
I have a large house in Huntington Beach - close enough to LA and SD for everyone around. I haven't talked to the parents about it, but I'm sure they'd approve (the equipment any one of us brings will be worth more than their valubles). Alternatively, I work at the Hyatt Huntington Beach, and might be able to score a good sized meeting space with power, internet, chairs, tables etc. If there is serious interest, i'll go talk to the banquets manager and see what i can set up. Probably minimal cost, or free. Southern Cali Pride! and someone needs to bring a PPA ... i'm dying to hear one.

well, it's not really a big deal... everyone i've met so far was pretty cool. haven't met an ahole headfier yet. i have many "parties" at my house.... at least once a week or two.... so it's not really a big deal to me. i was scared after the first one cause my movado watch was stolen... but the second one has no problems.

anyway, if people really want another one, there's no reason not to hold one....

but apprently akio might be able to get a nice place at the hotel.... and that would be nice too. huntington beach is nice. might be safer there cause then you could watch your equipment closer.... and i doubt anyone would be brave enough to try to steal a watch off my own wrist. heh he.

but either way, don't hesitate to talk to me... i'm not mean at all.

well, if it's too soon after the last meet then it is pointless. but if there are enough people and enough equipment, it'll be more than worth it. actually, for me if the PPA showed up it would all be worth it.

I would definitely be up for another if I have the time...
I could bring:
Melos Maestrobator, Grado HP-2, HD600 Cardas, HD580 Clou blue, meta42 portable, ath-em7, ksc-35, AKG-K1000.
Amps + sources:
Conrad-Johnson CAV-50 SET, DV2b (tubed cdp). If anyone is really gung ho, my MMF-9 and CJ EV1 phono stage. This is unlikely though....I don't really want to break it down. I could bring the PS audio p300 as well, as it is a great way to hear how much difference power makes.
Anyway, meeting with carlo today...I will see if I can take some pictures.

coool! are there dates that are better than others for yall? weekend?

Nov 8, 2003 at 6:22 PM Post #15 of 295
Definitely weekend. The best weekend for me would probably be the weekend before Thanksgiving (22-23). After that, there will be Thanksgiving (duh), and then I will be grading 50 final papers (over 400 pages worth of UCSB student papers...kill me now), AND 50 final exams. After that...probably back to Vermont and Connecticut for family stuff over Christmas break. I might be able to make something in early dec., but it might be hard as well...
