eBay cables
Feb 3, 2010 at 10:57 PM Post #16 of 47
Some time ago I bought a 1000 Ft roll of AQ Copperhead from ebay and not from HK but from US seller for $250. Also having original Copperhead I had a chance to compare it side by side. Visually and sonically they were the same - as much as I could tell. Later on tempted by the price I got myself AQ Gibraltar from HK seller (ebay). Well.....I have nothing bad to say about it. Compared it with Type 6+, Crystal and it sounded better then these two.
Now here is the thought: what if some chinese gentleman snatched it from production line for his own little ebay business?

I read some article about counterfeiting clothes in china, which was done in the same factory as original. The only difference, it was done after hours, when company inspector/representative wasn't there.

Finally is it really "made in USA"?

I wondered because of the different font style that this was an older version, maybe discontinued or something, of the Gibraltar's and found its way in the second market, it happens. but the misspelling is hard to come around to

I got a message today from hongkongsupply that "will be packing[very carefully]&shipping your parcel within the next 48 hours"

what!? I was starting to wonder where the cable was, I paid for it on the 19-Jan, and he hasn't shipped yet! I guess the Chinese factory he gets it from had some production delays

real or not the cable is most likely worth what I paid for - I bought the same length of CHORD CARNIVAL SILVER SCREEN (single) which retail for £6.00 per metre + interconnects at one end, and it costs me about the same. aslo I should've known better then expecting a cable that retail for thousands at a fraction of the cost. I've no intention of leaving negative feedbacks. beside I don't like messing with someone possible livelihood. period

I'm not sure if it's - whats the word - "the right thing to do" to post emails, if it's not someone let me know and I'll refrain.

here's hongkongsupply's reply to my last message:

"Sorry for this case. As my last mail explaint, the ebay still shows your payment is pending ( they always do such stupy thing

You make text it as soon as you received, if you don't satisify with it, your may return it wihtin the next 7days after you got it, we will provide nom-question payment refund. I can't wait to compare it to the other cable

as long as you listen to them side by side, go for it

just like how all cardas from ebay HK/china are fake

the fake cables are not really legal but that is a grey area. as mentioned above they may not even be fake, they may be stolen originals. that is certainly against the law. for them to sell at least. speaker cables may not sound so good and you lost your money. i would not mess with the hk power cords though! you could end up with a disaster beyond your worst nightmare! just do realise that all those cables are fake or stolen and usually poor quality. you can make much better ones for less money from parts at home depot if you don't feel like gambling.

ok, to whoever was interested, the cable’s arrived, and I think it’s 100%... fake!

Still I don’t get it how could they make such a mistake – I understand English’s not their first language, and this is what most come to the conclusion I guess, but I find it strange that someone would go to the length to replicate this item and overlook the spelling. Maybe the misspelling was done on purpose to cover themselves against possible prosecution as in the cable is not obviously the same (?). Could be possible that AQ misprinted by error and instead of recycling throw the cable away, and someone recycle it? I’m not trying to play investigator, I’m just curious - fact is, if wasn’t for the spelling it’d be quite difficult to tell them apart.

I can’t even try the cable because the onkio only takes bare wires, and the spades are huge. Unless I remove them it is impossible to fit them in there – the cable is neither small nor very flexible. I don’t want to keep the cable. It may be a perfectly good cable for all I know, but it’s not the same as knowing what you get, I just don’t feel good using it.

Anyway next week I gonna pick up my speakers, and I’ll bring the cable along to the the distributor - he has been in this business for many years and listen to £15k speakers – let’s see what he’s got to say about it.

the jacket does not even look anything like the real one. have you ever seen a real one?
some of the fakes are very good "looking". if they are exact copies performance wise i doubt it but who knows. the thing you have should go right in the trash. if you do not mind me asking, how much did that set you back? a real one i think is like $1,300.

i am worried a power cord i got from a legit source as a gift might be fake. if it is, it is so good that the authorized dealer said it is not fake. the problem is all of these companies let loose bulk cable and others terminate them. plus it sounds fine and has worked for a couple of years already. if it was going to blow up i would imagine it would have done so already. i think it is legit bulk cable is my only conclusion.

sometimes these cable co's have canceled orders or a lot of overstock. a large store can buy a lot of it at once at a huge discount, terminate it and sell it fairly cheap. remember, at retail the markup on this stuff is huge. so there is a lot of room to negociate for large bulk purchases.

however, if a couple thousand dollar cable is going for $50 i'd be suspicious!

Spelling mistakes on products is trademark of MIC. I am saying this based on many years of experiences using these products. Genuine products can have spelling mistakes too, if they are MIC. And mind you, those products with spelling mistakes can be thousand dollars types. This phenomenon never fails to amaze me.
