The reason I am asking is becuase bright IEMs usually give an impression of better transparency speed and even clarity than they are actually capable of producing.

I guess don't hear the CK10s as bright. Just clear, concise and fun to listen to (not over-analytic, like the ER4Ps sounded to me).

I will try your suggestion, but not really sure what it will prove, other than changing the CK10 sound sig, of course.

Second, not sure about the Russians and the CK10s, could be the cold has affected their hearing. Just kidding, but I guess I am not willing to base my musical experience with the CK10s on what some Russians say about them. I guess my ears count more.

I think you are spending way too much time pondering these phones, and your expectation mindset may be way off the charts at this point. Just saying. You can always sell them.

Yeah, I always check my Russian forums before I decide on an IEM. Is joke. Don't take my (or anyone else's) word for it, the CK10s suck (or at the most are mid level dual driver IEMs). We're just part of some great conspiracy at newegg to get people to buy these phones (more kidding).

Maybe get some IE8s, TF10s, W3s. It's all good.

People are praising the CK10s because once they resolved the fit issue, they really like them. Really like them. Pretty simple. I have heard tons of IEMs, none compare. I am not making that up.

In my case, I am always on the lookout for a better IEM. I saw Shigzeo's review, Joker mentioned how much he liked them, and all of a sudden, a few new reviews (AudioDwebe, AwakenedBeing) and thought, why not? Now, I get it. Much like every other IEM buying process, but this time, the results were more than I expected.

What's your point? You can take every single IEM and headphone on the planet and find people who both like and dislike them.

To me, these are the best universal fit IEMs I've ever heard.

I will have to admit that most people on those Russian forums were complaining about overly bright treble on the CK10. So I guess they did have fit problems. The stock tips just don't work for many I suppose. So anyways, I apologize for what I said earlier about the CK10s being "mid-level IEMs" That was a pretty stupid thing to say I must admit. It just reflects my doubts about the greatness of CK10, since they are just dual driver BAs after all.

But anyway, no more pointless speculations. It's all subjective anyway. I am about to trade my e-Q7 for a CK10. I am really looking forward to hearing the CK10s. I'll post my impressions in this thread when I get them which should be in about 2 weeks or so. Who knows - I may be in for a big surprise.

There is no doubt that the CK10 is not perfect, but no IEM that I have heard is. (Sidenote: my usual reference rig is a CanAmp-driven K601 which provides a more effortless, natural, and tonally accurate sound, differences between full-size cans and IEMs aside). While it may be true that the CK10 is currently overhyped, I do consider it a sizable step above my other mid-tier IEMs (RE0, ER4S, RE252, PFE, etc). Not having heard many of top-tiers I cannot call it the be-all end-all of in-ear earphones but with the right fit it is definitely an enjoyable listen.

Oh and I'm also in the 'stock tips $#%^ suck' camp.

Oh, BTW. I just realized that what I posted on the first page of this thread totally contradicts what I wrote about CK10s being considered mere mid level IEMs on the last page. Ouch.

There were indeed a few folks on that Russian forum who prefer their CK10s over all other top-tier universals, but of course there are many others who don't like them anywhere near as much. So at first, when I got excited over the OPs review, I remembered all the rave reviews from the few folks on the Russian forum and then today, when I was in a rather lousy mood, I remembered all the negative reviews, which resulted in the contradicting posts.

Hi Pianist, just a word of caution - here's what shigzeo wrote in his review of the CK100:
Quote:

With the release of the CK100, Audio Technica have reinvented the inner earphone. Their former flagship portable, the dual-driver CK10 is a thing of neutral, fast, and airy beauty. But no matter how good it is, its younger, pricier sibling hurdles it in every imaginable way.

I have not heard the CK10, but I have the e-Q7 and CK100. And I'd never trade the e-Q7 for a CK100. Just my opinion.

They're great, no doubt. But they have a few things they can improve on.

Ah, it's interesting watching the Head-Fi FOTM coming about.

Not sure why 10-12 HFers who recently bought and really like the CK10s is over-hype, especially since you contributed to that praise, I believe.

I agree though that this is getting silly. For the last time, in my case, I've had the UM3X, the X10, the IE8, the IE7, the W3 and currently own the W2 and the TF10 (I think that's all of the fairly high-priced IEMs I have owned).

Now, the CK10, to me, are preferred over all those phones, and I have personally heard them (not based on speculation or reviews or Russian forums or whatever). As for improvements, guess so. But honestly, I don't really care about it, they are that good to me. If I want improvements, I guess I would move up to JH13 or something along those lines.

If that is over-hype, then so be it. Guilty as charged.

I don't really care if anyone else even buys them, to be honest. Rather than sit around wondering if this or that phone is worth buying, I usually get the best deal I can and I buy and try, and then I sell. This time, that last act, I sincerely believe, won't happen.

There is way too much pre-purchase thinking going on in many cases. Just try them and if they don't match your expectations, sell them. It works.

Yes, Pianist said this (he is not getting the CK100s based on this comment. As for Shig's quote, I never have said I wanted to get the CK100 or that the CK10 was a better phone, so not sure if that's the quote you meant, but I was talking about Pianist's comment below):

Maybe James444 means he would not trade his Oroton's for the CK100, much less the inferior CK10s. If so, he could have been clearer about it. But no matter. There have been a few members who didn't care for the Ortofons either and sold them. Go figure.

Just a double check. You are trading for the CK10, right, not the CK100?
