Hi Everyone,

Was just wondering if the E2c really need an amp or do they run fine one say a sony portable CD Player? Also is it a substantial difference in sounds with and without an amp?

Thank You
Terry

HI: The E2 sound very good out of a pcdp. I use them out of my portable radio. But to sound their best I use a super mini amp V6.2D.

Hey Terry - I use my E2c directly out of my portable Sony CD player and they sound fine. I haven't tried them with an amp but I'm sure they would sound even better that way. But if you don't have an amp don't worry they will still sound good. There is also plenty of volume with the Sony/E2c combo/no amp combo.

I usually use them with an amp. The thing is that they really open up with more power through them, especially on the high end. However, to really hit the sweet spot with these headphones I find it is a little too loud for my liking.

One time I was listening to the E2s on my train ride home. I thought I had them plugged into the amp but I had tested something out earlier in the day and actually had them plugged into the headphone jack of my CD player. I have to be honest and say that I didn't notice because of the sound. While I (thought I) could tell the difference if I A/B with and without the amp, casually listening on my commute as I read the paper I really didn't notice the difference.

So much for thinking I have sensitive ears.

Incidently, the e2c's are the only cans that can make the added bass on my sony pcdp listenable-to.
