Upsampling feature of Ultra Dac

Is a usb signal upsampled or only optical ins? And why would I prefer an oversampled output?

I might get corrected here, but from my experience with the Ultra Dac the upsampling is only with USB.

if i understood correctly, the ultra micro dac upsamples everything that's go in, not only through usb.
the difference is that in usb it only accepts 16bit/44.1khz samples while on optical and coax it can accept anything from 16/44.1 to 24/96...hope i am not wrong here. anyway,in the end everything will be upsampled to 24/192.

You'd have to look into the Sabre DAC carefully to get even a remote gist of exactly how it works, but it is doing upsamling internally and it's a VERY high rate -- megahertz I believe.

Here's a link to my blog post that has links to more technical information.

Right Between Your Ears » Information resources for the ESS Sabre DAC.

sorry..my bad, i read the title wrong,i thought the question was reffering to the ultra micro dac instead of the ultra dac.

I meant the Ultra Micro Dac, but the info on the ESS was very helpful anyway.
