The 325's and the 600's are on par with each other. They are good competitors, each offering a different taste. You guys say that 600's aren't good for rock, well I don't agree. I love them with classic rock.

Maybe the SR-325s you experienced are not the usual suspects

. I've owned the regular SR325s and found them less balanced than the RS1s.

In this regard, the RS1s when compared to the HP2s, seem to provide, to my ears, a stronger response on the extreme low/high frequencies which I would also interpret as a less balanced response.

Good choice! Those phones (CD3k) seem to create true devotees and there must really be something to them. Still waiting to hear a pair myself, will probably happen before the end of the year...

I've also noticed this. Drums seem off somehow.

I also enjoy the HD600's with classic rock. When I owned the Grado sr325's I loved them with classic rock, too.

I wonder if it's that bit of 'distance' with the 600s that tends to hurt the sound of drums. To my ear it isn't that drums sound bad, but they can sound unrealistic... too 'punchy' when they should be direct/impactful, and almost delicate when they should be more aggressive. At its worst (only on occasion with some music) they sound more like those punching sounds in "Rocky" movies than drums.

I guess every headphone has its weaknesses -- the HD600 does so many other things so well, in my opinion.

amother thing to add, is that the snares can go that way too upfront, so i can think i'm with the drummer. then when i look at the distance of other instruments, there's no reason.. and i get an image of "alien soundstage".
