Does such a thing exist? It would be very difficult for me to handle anything that is not essentially transportable, but I'm not aware of anything that would drive Beyerdynamics' 600 Ohm DT770's.

Suggestions?

Slimmed down Lisa is coming soon. Otherwise, SR71 Blackbird.

Headstage Arrow is my recommendation. This thing is sweet and powerful.

Not sure by power what you mean. If you mean volume, you may be fine from even an iPod. My DT880 600 ohm are loud from an iPod. Driven from the Graham Slee Voyager, sound smashingly good and from other amps like the Rx, very good. They sound better with a valve amp and a bit of mains magic, but if you just want volume, they should run from just about anything fine unless you listen to really loud music.

The iQube will drive them in all but the noisiest environments (window seat on a 737).
My 770 sounds surprisingly good and only have to use 50% volume in quiet settings. On a noisy airplane, however, you're at 100% volume not having an audiophile experience. The 770's isolation is better than many, but is no where near as good as an iem.

I asked Ray Samuels if the Predator would drive them, and he responded that the Predator was designed for low impedance 'phones.

While the 770 600 ohm can sound good and enjoyable with a portable, they will scale up and sound better with beefier amps. The Beyer 600 ohm'ers sound very, very good in the K.I.C.A.S. amps and awesome in a variety of tube amps.

You might look into the Decware Zen Head Audiophile Tube Amps and Tube Gear from DECWARE. I have not tried it, but it would definitely be on the research list, should I decide to replace the iQube.

Thanks for all the responses -- I thought it was about a lost cause. I really didn't think that any portables would do it, even Lisa.

Shigzeo - I didn't mean volume, but the breadth and fullness of sound that amps lend some higher-draw headphones.

Okay, so.... any thoughts on Blackbird vs Zen Head? What I've read about both has been awfully good. Or iQube v2...
