Hello, Head-Fi. I've been looking into Fostex cans recently... I can't find much info on them

Can anyone help me out? I'm looking for tight, punchy bass with an enjoyable but clear sound.

Thanks!

You're interested in ortho, huh?

There's a lot of that talk in the Full-Size forum. Check out the massive thread there, and you should have more than enough info about Fostex.

...What are 'ortho' headphones?

Anyway, thanks for the tip!

Headphones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the only model from fostex is the one in my signature (that i know of) otherwise there are many used models sometimes available. Yamaha made orthos etc.
the T50RP needs a mod or a fiioE5 to get the bass inline with rest of the output frequency. the real strong property of these phones seems to be speed, they also require a seperate powerful amplifier to be driven to potential. the price is also easy on the wallet and they are fairly comfortable. certainly unique. maybe these aren't what you might consider portable, i have no problem wearing full size cans in public, maybe not walking down the street but hey, whatever works for you...

I actually enjoy wearing my headphones around. Right now, I'm torn between the T50RPs and the Denon AH-D1001K. My only concern:

Also, what amp would you recommend with these cans? Will the E5 you mentioned do the job?

I read the other post. I on the other hand liked them right away but they are different from other headphones. The only thing the other post said that I agree with is the missing bass. I didn't notice any change after "burn in" then again these are the budget stats; not true electrostatic but closer to stats than to dynamic driver headphones.

As for the amp, yes, the E5 brings the bass to the right levels (you could use eq or bass boost if your dap does that) then it depends on how loud you want to go. This phone has a quarter inch phone jack and an 8' or 10' cord.

I suspect you might want something else especially if your running these from a portable player and don't already have an amp.

I do plan on buying an amp... just not sure which one. I'm torn between the FiiO models (the E1 has a built-in LOD) and CMoys. I've decided, though: these are the cans I want.
