Hi all. I was looking at the PA2V2 initially, but realized that it is not well suited for 300ohm headphones. I have $75 to spend on an amp. I am not interested in DIY, so the amps will be pre-made:

1. AMB Mini3 - very hot amp on head fi, compares to $200 amps

2. Penguine Caffeine

3. High Quality CMOY (JDS or BSG?)?

Which of those is the best choice for sound quality and for driving Sennheiser HD580/600s? Thanks

I wouldn't really expect any portable amp to power them properly. Your best bet would be to look at a PPAv2. It's 'portable' in the sense that it can be run off batteries but it's still a bit of a brick.

I have a Mini3 and have owned a HD 650 before. I can tell you while the M3 powers them reasonably well, the 650's really cry out for more juice. Night and day difference on a desktop amp, in my experience.

the mini^3 should theoretically be superior because it uses 3ch active ground topology like the M^3 desktop amp. it has a basic regulated powersupply/charger that works well IMO. i dont think there is much that can compete with the mini^3 on value especially if you do a bare minimum build.

you will need to have a mini^3 made or buy a used one. i think building one is a very good idea because it's not that difficult and you will learn a lot about amps in the process opposed to buying something that looks fancy and sounds mediocre.
