Is this Sennheiser cx500 real or fake?

They are probably fake, I'm 99.9% sure. You cant expect to buy Senns at a bargain price on EBAY and expect them to be genuine. You'd have to buy from an authorized vendor to be sure. Senns are arguably the most pirated iem's in existence.

That said, they might still sound good to you. I've heard the pirates have gotten really good at matching the CX500 and its packaging. The only way to be sure would be to take them to a Sennheiser service center. That said, one simple test that may no longer be valid - is to listen to music then put the volume control all the way down. If the music shuts off completely, its definitely a fake. CX500's go down to low volume but not completely off.

Well that's too bad because I already know what a good earphone is...
The reason I bought those is that my JBL reference 220 seal isn't that good and there is a hissing sound when I turn the volume up...
Is there any way of recognizing if its genuine or fake WITHOUT OPENING THE BOX??
becuase if it's fake, heck no I dont want them -_-

Don't know if these would be helpful, but here are a couple links involving fake CX500s:

eBay.co.uk Guides - How to spot fake Sennheiser CX500

Also, if you're here in the US, there are a couple options of the top of my head that are better than the Reference 220 or a potentially fake CX500: the $18 (shipped) Meelectronics AI-M9 and Sennheiser's CX250, which can be purchased for $22 shipped. I'm sure there are others as well that other Head-Fiers can recommend.
