MS1/MS1i + bowls, or SR80i + bowls???

I don't think the MS1 looks nearly as good as the MS1i. Just my thoughts though.

I'd also think about about the MS1000 instead of just doing it because it's 'better'. It does take away some of the greatness that makes the MS1i, for some more soundstage and a slightly different sound. I for one, didn't like it much.

Felt like the mids lacked quite a bit in comparison. I liked the more up close sound with great mids on stock MS1i rather than soundstage and lesser mids on the MS1000. I just think soundstage takes away from music.

Stock ms1i ftw!

Nice. I still plan to do the mod, but I'll take note of that.

I'm going to buy the MS1 because I'm planning to woody the cups (when the warranty wears out). Maybe a summer/winter project. They're slimmer too.

btw, did you have to have the volume louder with the mod?

Yes. Had to definitely turn it up for this mod.

Didn't like it. It was cool for the first hour, hearing everything differently and nice soundstage, but it took the whole appeal away from the MS1 in the first place imo.

Sorry if this thread is dead, but I stumbled upon it when doing reserach for my MS1i's, I contacted Alessandro, after talking to them, You can add the bowls to your order of MS1i's for $15 which makes them the "cheapest" place to get them, I was pretty excited and they were really nice too!

Thanks, Lolitsluis for the fact, I hope it helps other people, too. I wonder how allessandro gets the pads so cheaply.

I'm seriously considering making an MS1000 now.

I figure, since they are an extension of Grado, they basically get them for a very nice price, which allows them to save us some money down the line

Dorkvader, sounds awesome, do you happen to have the new and improved 2009 version, I would like to know how it goes

Damit! My MS1i's were shipped a few days ago and so would've bought them with bowls if I'd known that!!

If you order them with bowls, do they still come with the stock pads, so I can make a comparison?

Comparing the bowsl with the comfy pads no my MS1i, I find the pads increase but muddy the bass response. I find the bowls allow the grill to press against my outer ear, and I can't wear them longer than an hour or so.

So, I created my own spacers that set the grills off my ears, and the bowls now fit fully around my ears. Perfect! See the MS-100 link in my sig line.

Sorry to hear, why dont you give them a call tomorrow, maybe you can still order from them and save 5 USD and shipping :/

I did email and they say $15 plus shipping, so I'm asking how much shipping to UK is (cheapest here is £20, so most likely still cheaper than buying them here).

Lawry, another option, also for those that already have their MS1i's but want bowls

Grado Labs Cartridge, Grado Labs Reference Series Phono Cartridges, Grado Labs Prestige Series Phono Cartridges, Grado Labs Reference Series Phono Cartridge, Grado Labs Prestige Series Phono Cartridge, Grado Headphones, Grado Headphone, Grado Needles also sells the bowls for 15USD
Grado Large Headphone Cushions -fit the Grado SR80s and above including the RS series

Sadly they are in America, but they have cheap shipping
*moderators, I am not sure if this counts as solicitation, please take this down if it is in violation and i apologize in advance

It's 20 USD shipped to UK from Alessandro. Not bad! I'll give my HD414 pads a go when they (MS1i's) arrive first and then decide.
